Question Wood piles
Anyone know where I can find any firewood / wood piles? Preferably near Suggs Ground / Lower Mead... In 2005 there was one in the cinema fields, then in the years since there wasn't one and now the cinema field has been given over to "hospitality"...

wood piles are usually found near the main tracks, but quickly decrease in size once the gates open. The only ones that do get topped up at all are the one at the bottom of Muddy Lane and along the railway line. Though don't expect there to be any evidence of these being refreshed within an hour of the tractors dumping them!

not too sure of the area you are asking about Mac, but most large fields will have a pile or two dumped near the track and near an entrance to the field. I think where you are is uptowards the farm, there is often one just below it, think on the map this area is Michaels Mead.

It is possible there has been one in the cinema area since 05, but due to the efficient scavanging actions of the sub-species festivus-woodus traces of it would not remian very long after gates opening

Good luck getting some wood!

I love it how GFL always say there will be plenty of fire wood to be found around the site!

Yeah plenty in the shop by the other stage, charging £5 per miniscule sack!!

The big dump of firewood on the railway track which used to be replenished throughout the festival isn't there anymore after Lost Vagueness crew nicked most of it to build a hut in 2007 (which was never finished). Most of what is available nowadays is generally cut into small pieces & dumped in piles around the camping fields but most of it disappears within a couple of hours of the gates opening.

Thanks tort... I think I emailed you that question this time last year... I've managed to get wood (might need to rephrase that ) in 1997 & 2005 but have struck out every other time. Have taken to bringing a small supply of logs with us.

Only place I saw last year getting replenished regularly was by the Stone Circle (Tipi Side) at about 6-8 O'Clock in the evening and the always seem to be plenty of fires going on there late at night and in the early hours

You can get ointment for them, and a special cushion.

Do people really have fires all to themselves? I think that would be a bit antisocial and would rather join a group of strangers all sitting round a fire.
