Default Why do people answer questions wrongly?
Are people who are too 'helpful' actually responsible for causing more problems than existed in the first place?

What is it with people who feel the need to answer a question as though they have or know the definitive answer even though they don't have a clue?

Be interested to know some theories on this compulsive 'helpfulness'

There was a paper on this a while ago: people who are wrong about something tend to be more certain they are right than people who know enough about it to realise they might not have all the facts....

I think....

If you think about this in relation to ageing, it makes sense. On the whole, as we get older and discover more and more about the world, we realise how little we actually know. Which ties in with the above statement.

The other aspect that needs to be considered is that some people are blithering idiots...

That is the correct answer to the question because I do actually know everything

Apart from all the stuff I don't know...

Think you are on to something with the ageing thing-my 16 year old son knows everything whereas it appears I apparently "Know F*** All" as I suspected.
I am therefore going to shut up and sit in the corner......with a beer.
