whats the best and worst meal you had at glasto?
thought id start this as there was a thread before the festival asking what the food was like and as i was a glasto virgin i was also curious as to what i would be eating.
there seemed to be a lot of places doin wraps etc, so its a toss up for me between a chicken bhatti (i think thats what it was called) or the pauline fowler growler which was brilliant so it the growler prob wins for me.
as for worst it was prob the breakfast baguette i had, it was terrible to say the least, nearly broke a tooth lol. i also bought a burger that was advertised as cooked fresh etc but it was sh*t ive had better at carboots and both these cost around £6.

I didn't buy any food at Glastonbury except the odd doughnut. We took a shit load of meat in the fridge and coolbox and had at least one BBQ every day. Burgers, sausages, bacon, pork and chicken. We tended to cook a generous brunch and then wrap any excess for later. We also had pasties and sausage rolls. We had a load of baps, finger rolls and bread that just about lasted. Tracker bars were also useful.

There is some weird place up near the circus field that sells the best cheap filling food going. Veggie burger with mash, peas, beans and cheese for £3. So happy I stumbled across this on the Thursday it must have saved me about £30.
Worst place was the pizza slice place in the Chill and Charge feild. £4 for a slice of burnt pizza.
I failed to see the big wok place at the bottom of the Film/Acoustic tent field that has been there for along time. Anyone know if it was there or somewhere else or was I just to stupid to notice it?

Reminds me that I did buy a small slice of pizza in Shangri-la by the Snake Pit at about 2am one morning. It really upset me as for the same price I had bought a whole tray of chicken portions for the BBQ, which had tasted fantastic.

Best - has to be the vegetable pasties
Worst - not a meal but I didn't particularly enjoy my lemonade from the lemonade stand which cost £3.

Too lemony? Too sweet? Too tart? Too weak?
If they were running their booth for five days, they aught to have got it right.

I don't think I had anything particularly bad. The lamb in my lamb bhaat was a bit gristly but apart from that is was tasty.
I had a nice plate full of Thai stuff from somewhere near the pyramid, some nice stuff from Henry's Beard cafe (why do people leave cardomom pods in curries? Drives me mad!), and some good cheap filling stuff from the Mama's & Papas place in the Kidz field.
Oh and we had some lovely pasties from a stall that was selling them off on the Monday morning.

Best was the Goan Fish Curry from West Holts, worst was self inflicted on a very drunken Wed night when I apparently (cant remember) had a late bacon sandwich that might have had butter on - not a good idea as I'm intolerant to dairy products. Suffered in more ways than one on Thursday morning

there's no excuse for eating rubbish food at Glasto. Yes, there are plenty of grotty burger vans etc, but they are by far outnumbered by excellent foodie places. Take your time and have a good look around, you'll always find soemthing

It always amazes me when I see a queue for the kebab place near the Pyramid Stage. People usually only eat Doners when they're drunk and nowhere else is open. At Glasto, only one of these boxes can be ticked, so why do people do it to themselves?
Each to their own I guess.

First year i went we took loads of food which equals loads of weight and more trips to the car ontop of camping stuff and booze. For 2009/2010 i had breakfast, lunch and dinner from the vending stalls - there is a vast range of food to choose from e.g. Carribean chicken, hog roast, huge yorkshire puddings filled with pies, welsh oggies, pizzas, chinese, vegan, veggie, indian and ur typical burgers and chips.
I eat abything so i was in my element haha. One time of the year its "fat day" every day haha! Gutted i didnt get a ticket for 2011 :-(

I was a glasto virgin last year, and being a poor student i had no money (only spent 30 quid the whole weekend and that was on booze on sunday night as i ran out!), so i took my own food.
I made a big mistake of taking loads of meat, which wouldnt have been bad but my cooler bag decided to not work so alot of the food went bad. So i lived off noodles and pasta for most of the week.
I think this year im gunna try and save abit up and try out some of the 100s of food places i had to walk past last year!!

2009 was my first Glastonbury, which was about time, considering I love festivals. Didn’t get to go last year, and thankfully I was one of the lucky ones to get a ticket. To be fair most of the food at Glastonbury is brilliant, and you don’t have to be drunk to enjoy it. Though I do tend to stick to the non meat dishes, bad experience before has taught me this valuable lesson. I also remember having an awesome curry chip somewhere, being my first Glasto and being rather intoxicated I have no idea what the place was called. Burgers do tend to be the worst option to go for, but as others have mentioned above, why stick to Burgers and kebabs when there is so much more on offer. Roll on Glasto 2011. Buffystar I'd say it probably was the best Kebab ever, when you are intoxicated and its free, Happy Days!

La grande bouffe - wild boar sausages with potatoes dauphinoise - epic. i always make a point of never having a burger and never having chips at glasto - too much other tastiness to choose from.

On the Wednesday once we are all settled want to take the family out to explore, there are two veggies amongst us. What's the best place to perch and have some yummy grub for lunch? No burgers or chips please.

A rough and simple rule I tend to stick to: the further from the Pyramid, the better the food (there are obviously exceptions, good and bad, many of which have already been mentioned!) Lou is in heaven at Glastonbury as she's a veggie and isn't used to having so much choice!
Bests: Have to agree with the votes for the Goan fish curry in West Holts; the fabulous hog roast across from The Bread and Roses (I'm not a veggie, can you tell?); the awesome Buddha Field Cafe; Groovy Smoothies in the Park - a great way to start the day, especially in that heat last year; I had an awesome bacon sarnie in West Holts a few years ago, but couldn't find it last year; the Thali place at the bottom of the hill in the Park - provider of food for our Annual Thali Night at the top of the hill every Thursday...
Worsts: Any number of dodgy burgers with, uh, unfortunate consequences...
Oh my God I'm so hungry right now...

Food for veggies is simply awesome! I have to add the Manic Organic vegan breakfast to my other half's list above. And the thali we had at daybreak after a night in the Shangri-La/Arcadia general area. And lots more too ..

Me and my friends had an absolutely hilarious night in some pizza place on the Friday night in '09, completely drunk, and met these two lovely lovely people who we sat with, who helped us come up with some of the best chat up lines ever created for my friend Tom (on the right) and the girl making the pizza's who we only know of as "pizza girl"
Couldn't find the place the following day... and couldn't find it last year either Pizza was absolutely great though - freshly made and really really cheap!
Heres a picture - my friend Ali (on the left) the two lovely lovely people in the middle (whose names we can't remember) and Tom on the right
If anyone knows where this place is, then please let me know - as it'd be great to find it again this year!

Don't remember having any 'bad' food last year - copious amounts of doobies and cider probably affected that...I would have eaten and thoroughly enjoyed anything on the Wednesday night!!
As for the best food....it just has to be the Welsh Oggies!

My all time Glasto favourite, year after year, is wedges with houmous from somewhere near Jazz world.. Blue note cafe I think? or maybe the place next door to that..I can't remember! They do awesome veggie burgers too.
Worst I ever had was in '04.. Had a pizza from some place near the Other stage. Made me rather ill. Not eaten pizza at Glasto since!

One of the most enjoyable meals I've had at Glasto was simply sausage, chips and beans from the Children's Cafe in Bella's field Reasonably priced and felt homely somehow.
I wasn't keen on the lamb oggie, it was a bit greasy with too much mint sauce, but the original recipe one was lush. Smoothies are always a winner for quenching thirst as well as getting some nutrition and getting a sugar boost.

Best food for me was the jerk chicken with rice and beans, i couldn't pinpoint which stall it was as i ate from a few of them
The worst had to be a pot noodle i made after returning to my tent one night.

Ooh, and I should add the middle eastern mezze from somewhere in West Holts I think, and the really fresh tasting quesadilla in the Park, and the cream tea in the Tree Cafe, and the dahl from the Goan curry place ... I just love the food at Glasto!
Only bad experiences I've had with food there has been when we were in a rush and I just grabbed a quick veggie burger near the Pyramid to tide me over - not bad as such - just a bit meh - disappointing to have something so ordinary when there's so much good and interesting and delicious food around!

Best has to be the be the pies from Pieminster in West Holt's, only problem is that it's dangerously close to Brother's! There is also another excellent pie shop near the BBC introducing stage, which also does fantastic thin 'French Fry' type chips.
Worst was a pizza from one of the camping fields (opposite to the Kellog's gazebo) on the way out to gate D on Sunday night, most expensive food I've ever purchased at Glasto and was minging! Mind you every breakfast I've had from the tent's in the camping fields has also been pretty awful, even with a hangover.

As NCFCTOM says above, La Grande Bouffe best meal at Glasto, If you're not a veggie.
Worst meal? Now thats got me thinking.... No, can't think of a bad one.
And what happened to the "Garlic Kitchen"? that was really good food, if you like Garlic. Their Garlic bread was to die for, LOL.

Got to add a quick mention for The Cat In The Hat in Green Kids, next to the new climbing frame ship thing which replaced the Rainbow Warrior last year. One of the best curries I've ever tasted despite it being veggie and me being a carnivore normally. Chocolate cake to die for too.
Good story from a few years ago involves the Festival health and hygiene people closing down one establishment at Glasto ... the police canteen!! They had to get all their food brought in from the Red Lion pub in West Pennard instead.
