Red face Wedding/Blessing
HI!! I have been tweeting about this all morning but REALLY want to arrange a blessing at Glastonbury 2010... I have messaged Emily Eavis and sent a few emails to the ones provided on the Glastonbury official website.. If anyone can let me know how I can register/book this? Do they still do this?
Thanks

Julia

im not really sure if you can tbh. an actual wedding has to done within a building or a specific designated place. the registery office has a list of where its allowed. then you would have to get some one with the authority to bless/conduct the ceromony. as well as getting them a ticket.
I think Emily Eavis got married in her local village then party on at worthy farm.
You used to be able to get married at lost vaugness (not official, just for the weekend)
im not 100% sure about this though so keep looking but i wouldnt wanna raise your hopes.
and anyway if you did and in the future your marriage went tits up glastonbury wouldnt be the same would it.

Where can a marriage take place

A marriage can take place in:-
  • a Register Office
  • a church of the Church of England, Church in Wales, Church of Ireland, Presbyterian or Roman Catholic Church in N. Ireland
  • a synagogue or any other private place if both partners are Jewish
  • a Meeting House if one or both partners are either members of the Society of Friends or are associated with the Society by attending meetings
  • any other religious building provided that the person marrying the couple is registered by the Registrar General - see under Religious marriage ceremonies (England and Wales only)
  • premises approved by the local authority - see under Religious marriage ceremonies (England and Wales only)
  • a place where one partner is seriously ill and not expected to recover
  • the home of one of the partners if the partner is housebound, for example, has serious disabilities or is agoraphobic
  • a hospital, if one of the partners is unable to leave or is detained there as a psychiatric inpatient
  • a prison, if one partner is a prisoner.
Local authority approved premises (England and Wales only)

Local authorities in England and Wales may approve premises other than Register Offices where civil marriages may take place. Applications for approval must be made by the owner or trustee of the building, not the couple.
The premises must be regularly open to members of the public, so private homes are unlikely to be approved, since they are not normally open to the public. Stately homes, hotels and civic buildings are likely to be thought suitable. Approval will not be given for open air venues, such as moonlit beaches or golf courses. Generally, the premises will need to be permanent built structures, although it may be possible for approval to be given to a permanently moored, publicly open boat. Hot air balloons or aeroplanes will not be approved.
If you want to get married in local authority approved premises you should obtain a list of premises from the local town hall. Or you can search for approved premises on the General Register Office's website at: www.gro.gov.uk.

Certainly legally binding marriages can't take place at Glasto for all the above reasons.

Since the demise of LV and the Chapel there aren't "wedding" (non-legal) facilities in LV but I've a feeling Greenpeace or some such group were doing them this year. H4C will probably have a better memory on this than me tho'!

thanks everyone, was not planning on having a legal marriage but more after a blessing, as we are going to be getting married in 2011 for real. will keep looking into it though as would be lovely to have a blessing somewhere in the festival with the friends that won't be at the legal wedding

Emily Eavis replied to me on twitter and said "@Julia_hearts_u go to the shangri-la section of our site and you can find out all about it" but I have looked and can't find anything. i can only imagine that when the line up and all the areas and themes have been decided/announced!! Patience is a virtue!!

Default Hand Fasting
Hello,
There must be some sort of way of doing it - a pagan hand fasting ceremony in the stone circle/dragon field would be cool. (nothing legal just symbolic) Stag/Hen parties the night before. BUT I think all Glastowatch forum members should be there! Maybe there should be a broomstick 'fence' (Like a low horses fence) That you hold hands over with the gorgeous guy/girl you're with at the festival or have met there...
Scobes xx

I had my stag weekend at Glade festival in 2005 - It was awesome. (Glasto a couple of weeks before it with my wife & friends, then Glade with just my best man/mate on the last weekend that mushrooms were legal!)

I remember watching a wedding in the LV chapel one year. It was really bizarre, it was in a boxing ring and I think there was a man in an orange jumpsuit with a sledgehammer.
