Default U2 forced to cancel Glastonbury appearance

Following a phone call from Bono to Michael Eavis this morning, we're extremely sorry to report that the band will not be able to perform their headline slot at this year's Glastonbury Festival. This is due to the serious back injury which Bono sustained last week and the subsequent medical advice he has received.

Said Bono: "I'm heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special - we even wrote a song especially for the Festival."

Said Michael Eavis: "It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed. Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them. At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2's Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery."

I could not be happier with this news.

Hopefully now we will see a band added to the line up that will fulfill earlier promises of the so-called 'best line up ever' . . . . . . . .

Led Zeppellin WTF, Dizzy would be horrible given the promises of the best line up ever. Coldplay is predicatable but I like the suggestion of Bon Jovi for a bit of cheese, or to truly kick off the best weekend ever let Emily tap up the Arctic Monkeys or a reformation of Pulp as a one off memory trip. The suspense all adds to the excitement.....less than a month to go!

IM really really fucking gutted. Id rather give Florence the gig. As long as Dizzee didnt come on but that would be infuritating end to it. Remember Kings Of Leon? Fratellis before them? no didnt think you did? There not even together anymore.

Kings Of Leon should be there anyways. they were probably special guests somewhere along the weekend. but christ im fumiing. too good to be fucking true. and now im getting Leeds/V whoppers going "ahh well Glasto isnt all that now is it".

There's lots of noise about it being Gorillaz.

I like Gorrilaz but don't think they're big enough to fill the U2 slot, I'd like to see a bigger name than that. Even if they moved FatBoy Slim into that slot I'd be happier.

me 2 and both my kids (11 and 13) say they would prefer the gorillaz than U2, but saying that, last year they said they had never heard of tom jones but they sang along to most songs.
