Default Train Travel...
I can't speak from vast experience here, as last year was my first year at Glastonbury, but train traveling has wound me up a bit this year...

I'm traveling from London, and from 7am, there is something like 6 train services to Castle Cary up to 11:00am. Last year I travelled by train, and there was loads of trains scheduled... We left at 8:00am, where as, this year we'll be leaving at 9:15am and arrive at 11am, where no doubt there will be bigger queues for the shuttle bus service as everyone will be forced into getting similiar timed trains.

Then the Glastonbury Express appears out of nowhere with a pricetag of £70?!

Surely Glastonbury haven't binned working with national rail to line their own pockets with their own service?

Just seems a bit mental to me, and there are thousands of people who choose to travel by train, and isnt it a big thing for them for their punters to choose green travel?

Surely I'm not the only person a bit miffed by this, or maybe someone with a bit more experience of traveling to the festival by train could calm me down?! Haha

D

At the end of the day, the 'Glastonbury Express' returns to London before the festival has even ended (unless thats changed) and at £70 a ticket I think it is quite easy to get a cheaper ticket. Someone's shot themselves in the foot there!

It was my first year last year and I arrived at Castle Cary about 14:00 on the Wednesday. The shuttle bus ques were quite big but I just put up with it, we were all in the same boat so there was no point worrying about it. Just think of it as part of the Glasto experience

Ooo a train query. I wanted to know about what happens at the train station, I assume Wednesday is manic, I arrive Thursday night, I assume I just have to wait to get on the shuttle when I can and as you say, take it all as part of the experience

Put it this way, I'm traveling from Hastings to Bournemouth on Tuesday, then Bournemouth to Castle Cary on the first train, Wednesday.

Same as on the return journey (just backwards of course).

With a student railcard? £33.

Without? Somewhere around £50.

I'd rather go on a slightly packed train and queue for an hour for the shuttle bus than pay £70 for a train that leaves before the festival has even finished!

I know I just have to grin and bare it, and no doubt will, because I'll be wetting myself with excitement anyway.

I was just a bit miffed about the lack of trains traveling from London compared to last year. Oh well, 19 days to go, and what Metro are calling "The hottest June in 5 years".

Sounds like a jinx to me!

I was hoping to see a little bit of rain this year tbh. Last years heat was a little much IMO - the frozen yoghurts and countless visits to the brothers bar helped though.

It was outrageously hot last year. Funny seeing everyone cramming into whatever shade they could find.

I don't mind another hotty. TBH I don't care what it does
