    Hi all,

    I work for Shelter and we have got a few volunteer places to work at this year's Glastonbury, meaning you can get in for free!

    You do have to put down a ?250 deposit, however you get this all back once you've completed all the shifts. If you don't turn up, you lose the deposit and it costs Shelter money too.

    You can register for your place here:

    FAQ's etc are here:

    I would expect there to be plenty of takers, after the re-sale...

    I'm on the litter crew for the first time this year... Going to be different!

    Its a good deal - Shelter gets the money but it will be Avalon Bars and Events in charge.

    I do know the people who run Avalon Bars and Events as I worked with them for over twenty years with the WBC and they will be in charge at the smaller bars at Glasto. { The WBC will be running the larger ones }

    their campsite is near gate B { well it was in 2011 }

    I doubt that very much because the resale is 21st April and Shelter has already started handing out places and they have changed their page so its a ' reserve list ' so anyone hanging back to 21st April will likely miss the boat.

    I knew a few WBC people who were unable to get a wbc place so I let them know about Avalon and they have got places.

    Hi all,

    Yes all of our volunteer places have gone, but we do sometimes get people dropping out (crazy I know!) so it's probably worth getting on the reserve list just in case.

    If place don't become available, we should be getting more opportunities at other festivals over the summer, so you'll hear about these first.

    some may wonder who is Avalon - its a very long story but its a break away group from the WBC so many of the procedures are the same as the WBC .

    The first year they were allowed to operate at Glastonbury the deposit was ?100 and surprise surprise a fair number of volunteers went AWOL so anyone who thinks the deposit is high - its high for that reason as it did cause them serious problems as its difficult to run a bar if there is 20% of the staff missing.

    Its a good deal and in fact I work more hours than Avalon volunteers and they have even offered me a paid slot to run one of their Bars but I cant turn my back on the WBC while they have the main drink concession.

    Most of the Avalon Bar Managers I know { and have knowing them for 20+ years } and they will be fair but you have to appreciate that they cant allow a whole mob to dive out and see such and such as the bars are designed to work with a certain level of staff and for each person who is not there this puts more strain on the people who are still working so expect to be working for the whole shift.

    They have all the normal crew facilities and may also be running their own crew bar { but this has yet to be confirmed } so when you factor it all in its a good deal provided you are dependable as they will expect you to be on time and to stay at your post to the end of your shift.
