Things I love about Glastonbury
This is my second outing to Glastonbury and last year was a huge eye opener. I know there are millions of things people particularly love about the festival, my favourites so far are the total immersion into this mini city that seems so cut off from the rest of the world and the numerous random sights you see - middle aged man in tutu asleep by the loos near the pyramid stage. Bless.

I know what you mean. It's like being transplanted into an alternative reality I think! Real life doesn't exist at Glastonbury. I just wish I could do the whole 5 days, like you I can't get time off work, although I have managed to swing it for Friday! Almost tempted to change jobs just to enable me to take the week off!

Mr Nelly suggested I do that, then go back to my old job. Very tempting.

last year we were walking through a field by Bella's bridge and saw what can only be described as a "eccentric old man" riding what looked like a penny farthing wearing speedos with a massive long beard...proclaiming we should "make way for his royal highness the prince of wales"
i remember looking round at my other half and thinking... "yeah of course its the prince"
but to our shock and surprise it really was him!! I managed to get a lovely picture of the top of his head as well as mr eavis!
never underestimate the anything you hear at the festival, but expect the unexpected thats why i love glasto!

I had to re-read that 4 times before I realised that you didn't mean the Prince Of Wales was the one in speedos on a penny farthing!
Likewise, I think I love the random shit like that at Glasto more than anything else. Like the time I saw a very eccentrically dressed man playing a piano on wheels rolling down a hill like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Actually, what I love even more is the people. EVERYONE is happy, nice, friendly, kind, cool etc etc. I love the way you can strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone at any time and it doesn't mean anything other than you're just having a chat with a random, love it! I think I have only ever had one slightly unpleasant incident that lasted a few seconds and was just to do with frayed tempers at the end of week. Which when you consider how many people are there and how crowded it can be is really good I think.

Its funny isn't it because once you leave the festival the chances are those same people you randomly chat to would look at you like you were completely mad if you did the same thing at the service station down the road. It's like one big happy family for a few days.
If only every day was a Glastonbury day.

Last year I saw the best thing ever - there was a lady who must have been in her 60's long flowing silver hair, walking around as naked as the day she was born, in the greenfields, with a big Gandalf-esque walking stick just casually walking up to stalls and having a browse.
I think it's brilliant that people can feel so comfortable with themselves and their surroundings at Glastonbury!
But I did wonder where this lady was the rest of the year, it seemed as though she never wore clothes; her skin was proper brown like the cover of an old book. Massive respect to her!

It may sound silly, but I love how safe I feel there. Most people are so friendly, and we're cut off from shit in the real world, it's like a bubble of happiness and calm

Absolutely spot-on. I feel completely safe on duty too. For example, asking a group of lads not to smoke in a tent would probably result in an earful of abuse anywhere else but at Glasto, it's usually a polite, "Oh yeah, sorry mate ... this band is ace innit? Any chance of you getting us backstage at all?" etc, etc
I also love the fact that people of all ages, genders, shapes and sizes will just come and hug a steward for no apparent reason!
