Hi and thanks to crazybird for directing me to this thread from here http://forum.glastowatch.co.uk/first...ars-t1060.html. Wife and I are taking our 2 daughters (3 & 6). First time as a family although I went 20 odd years ago. Plan is similar to Crazybird's - not sure about travelling down on the Tuesday night but probably will - really want to get a pitch in Cockmill. Thanks for the info on this thread - it's making us all feel alot better. Does Cockmill really fill up that quickly?

We haven't put the tent up without a row yet so we should be pretty easy to spot if anyone wants to come and say hi when we get there.

ps - anyone got their tickets yet...?

I got my ticket last Friday, have you had email conformation from "See Tickets" to say that "DX Secure" have you're tickets? If so phone them on 08447701543 and ask them very nicely to send them as the anticipation is doing your head in.

You will need to be in to sign for it/them as the first named on the envelope, hope that helps...

I thought having a row was a compulsory part of putting a tent up - it is in our house.

Just a random thought on the subject of food (a subject always close to my heart!) I think stuff like samosas and pakoras, pork pies, sausage rolls, crossaints, pain au chocolat etc etc are great to take. Buy them the day before you go and they'll keep for a few days. They don't need refrigerating, cooking or preparing in any way. Ok, they're not exactly healthy but they are easy and better and more substantial than crisps and chocolate. I'm planning to take stuff like this out with me every day in a tupperware. obviously it's different when you're camping cos you can't carry as much and if you've got kids obviously you need more food. But I reckon it'd be worth taking some stuff like this to save a few quid.

Ermmm sorry to be the one to shatter your plans but.......Any food containing meat Must be refrigerated !! have you any idea at what rate bacteria multiply s at room temp ! let alone in a greenhouse/tent ??
and anything containing chocolate will melt, well unless we have cold crap weather, which im hoping we wont
I agree that crisp and choc just dont fill you up. but if pennys are tight and you cant afford eating out all the time, then your only option is to cook!!
and theres nothing better than gettin up in the morn, puttin kettle on, frying some bacon (which you can buy on site) and planning your day ahead, we normaly eat lunch out at one ov the many fantastic stalls
teatime usually consists of pasta with stir in sauce and pitta breads,
all cheap, filling , easy to carry, quick to cook and can be kept at room temp
last thing you want is food poisoning while your trying to" live it up" lol
what ever you decide to do, have fun

Hi All!

A few questions as I only found out I was going yesterday (won tickets! woo hoo) and I have been loads of times BUT this year will be completely new as taking my 8 year old son.
So it's just me and him....*shudders with worry*
First of all we will be getting the train to CC and then the shuttle bus, I need to buy a trolley of some sort...any suggestions what type as need to fit it on the transport.
I am so not strong so need wheels! lol
Secondly we will be arriving Wed dinner time so will the family camping area near the pyramid still be reasonably easy to pitch by then?
Thirdly can't think of what it was but any tips on stuff to bring etc....
Thanks all in advance....

Ooh you might just have a point there! I was thinking more about a campervan which tends to stay quite cool, at least in the cupboards etc, but of course tents do get fiendishly hot. There's always cool bags etc but I suppose if you don't have access to a freezer to re-freeze the ice blocks, that's not much help either. So yes, I guess that leaves cooking. I certainly plan on having a full English every morning but then that's why I'm forking out for a van because I'm lazy and like my creature comforts!

OK.

Glasto Veterans of many years but taking our two year old this year.

Obviously never had any need to go anywhere near Family Camping so know nothing about it. Couple of Questions

We go with two other people, who are childless, what are the chances of them being allowed to camp with us in family camping? I'm assuming nil.

We have always camped Pennard Hill/Dairy Ground I'm toying with the idea of not camping in the Family area at all, (especially if our two friends being able to camp with us there is a no go) Am I really missing anything? What are the main differences between "normal" camping and Family?

Cheers in advance for any help

Last year was my 16th Glasto and 1st with my son (then 8).

I found Family Camping excellent, The stewards are really helpful and very security conscious, I had a friend arrive late and we had to meet him at the stewards entrance before they would let him in - so they could actually see he was with us. If you and your friends turn up together there should not be any problem. It was quieter than say the main areas but we quickly made friends and had a great time in the evenings.
I think it is just more relaxing than being camped in a main area - still a walk, still loudish but hey it's Glasto!

One tip though as a mum the queues for the loo in the morning are longer I presume due to week bladders lmao BUT I would not go with out a Travel John!!!

Nice one, cheers for that. It just seems daft us camping in different places, we've all gone together for years so if we can all camp together in Family Camping thats the best of both worlds.

We're not going this year but I'd agree with all that, arrive together and all should be well. Later in the weekend the stewards will recognise you as an established resident. Yes morning loo queues are long, we often ended up using ones farther away en route to wherever we were headed for the day. There is more room in family camping and space for kids to play ball games etc. Whereas outside family camping there is no visible grass between tents!

ive noticed it depends which family camp area you are in to how strict the stewards are !
b4 i took my kids i used to camp up near Hitchen Hill and family camp was nxt to us, they had steward on the entrance and if u didnt have kids you couldnt get in for love nor money !
But since takin the kids we camped in Cockmill meadow and they havent had stewards on the entrance and also had found people without children staying on there?
most i have to say was of the older age range but did end up with a tent of 5 teenagers nxt to us last yr
The location is ideal though, 2 mins from kids field and circus tent, 2 mins from pyramid in other direction.
i didnt have any probs with loo's and managed to catch them in the morn when they just been cleaned
the actual camp stewards were lovely, and helped find my missing son a few times last year
i think you should defo all try and camp together though, my friends still camp up Hitchen hill
but even if you dont you get to meet new neighbours

Also you will find your neighbours in the family camping are more accepting when your tired 2 yr old decides to throw a wobbley in the middle of the night. I think it will be fine taking your friends into the field with you we have always had our responsible adult with us.
