The festival press office has responded to the Muse & Wonder rumours.

Quote:
"We are hoping to confirm Muse for the Saturday, later today we hope," the Glastonbury Press office have told 6 Music.

According to their spokesperson, an announcement could be made by close of shop on Tuesday (2 Feb) through their own official website.

In response to rumours of a performance from Stevie Wonder, a statement reads: "It is very much a possibility but he's still only on Michael Eavis' wish list - so not 100% confirmed, it's pending."

The Glastonbury organisers have confirmed the main stage bill for the 40th anniversary sold-out musical gathering, between 23-27 June, is practically finished.

"We’re pretty much sewn up now," said Emily Eavis on Monday (1 Feb). "We’re still slightly confirming the Sunday night headliner but apart from that, we’ve pretty much finalised the Pyramid Stage which is good."

Although we know U2 are topping the bill of the first night, on Friday 25 June, their first time, Emily hinted that one of the prospective headliners booked has never played the event before: "We’re very, very pleased with it.

"It’s a 40 year celebration this year so we’ve got some amazing highlights from the full 40 years and also some people who haven’t played before, one headliner in particular, so we’re very pleased with it."

Yesterday when it was bandied about that Muse were booked in for the Saturday (26 June), Emily said people shouldn’t believe the rumours.

"I think this is the first year that people genuinely don’t know who is going to be playing, which is a good thing," she explained.

There won’t be long to wait now, with Emily adding: "We’re hoping to announce the names soon because I think there’s an air of desperation and I understand that people want to know, so as soon as we can, we will announce the names."

Elsewhere My Luminaries and surf-rock singer Jack Johnson have confirmed they are performing at the bash.

Cant say I'm thrilled about Muse on Saturday night, there are much better out there to headline such a great slot - good news for all Muse fans though I suppose, too morbed for me, think you'll find me at Shangri La looking for some madness!- Stevie Wonder though what a crowd puller that'll be!

I thought that too Holesy, but after seeing their headliner show at Leeds a few years back, I totally changed my mind. They put on a fantastic show! But fair enough, if they're not your cup of chai, there's plenty to keep you happy
