So- what'll we be doing next year??
Local festivals for me I think! That'll be Camp Bestival, Endorset in Dorset and Festibelly. I do Camp B and Festibelly anyway and will save my Glasto money to do 'glamping' the year after! (If we get tickets that is!) That walk on my own through the thick mud dragging my trolley, with a rucksack on my back and a dodgy hip did me in this year!! Endorset is a great little festival- about £80 with a load of punk and indie stuff!
Just wish I could afford a camper! Can't be doing with Reading IOW/ V etc!! Camp Bestival is fab- a lot of children but a great setting and River Cottage Cafe tent- best burgers EVER!!! Only half an hour away too plu I know the back routes so don't get stuck on the only road in!!

Well, I know what we'll be doing the first weekend in October! Logged on to multiple PCs and praying!
As for festies, we're thinking about that Hungarian festival mentioned elsewhere on another thread. Endorse it in Dorset has been on my list for a few years now, as has Secret Garden Party. Tempted by the Big Chill too, some Glasto friends went a few years ago and rated it. Wish the Elephant Fayre was still going, that was lovely…
As for V, I would go but I'm having my eyes gouged out with a teaspoon that weekend and that's an infinitely more attractive proposition…
Whatever, we should arrange a Glastowatch meet at whatever festivals enough of us are going to!

Sounds like a plan! I couldn't get to the meet but was looking out for purple badges all weekend- didn't see any though . I am def going to do Endorset- I know the girl that runs security and she really rates it as a very friendly festival. Loads of tattoos and punks but safe and a great atmosphere apparently. Also up the road from me! Festibelly is a one nighter in Lymington on August bank holiday- a local farmer who likes to get up and play his guitar- worth £30 of anyone's money. It's only a ten min walk from the station too!!

Heard good things about Endorset, must find out more as I'm now a local! Secret Garden Party is well worth checking out tho! Went a couple of times 4-5 years ago and was ok, nice, but not all that. Went last year and was blown away as to how it had developed into such a great festival! Take your swimsuit tho, that boating lake is awesome!

With you on that! Think I'd rather go to Reading!

I'm just hoping I can afford to make it thru this summer without having to sell mine to pay rent!
Am off to Larmer Tree this month, will report back, though have heard from other sources it's very much a middle class guardian readers festival, which should be an interesting contrast to Glastonbury!

Sorry, I’m a bit late picking up on this. Endorse It is indeed wonderful and was my favourite festival of 2010, even better than a hot Glasto. Made even better because I get in on a free press pass thanks to my mate Flounder. “Ladies Day” on Sunday has to be seen to be believed & it’s not run by hippies! What is there not to like?! Tickets still available as far as I know.
Secret Garden Party, I went for the first time last year and will be back again in a next week. I love the quirkiness & attention to detail. Swimming in the lake, an amazing fireworks show and a tent where you can photocopy your bums and boobs! It is pricey though and the security on the gate can be real arses but like Glasto there is no arena so once you’re in you’re in.
Big Chill I went once in 2008. Even then it felt as though they were screwing the punters for every penny. We called it the Big Bill. And with Festival Republic now being involved I can’t imagine the situation has improved. We have lots of friends who used to go every year but won’t go back now. A pity because the site is lovely although it’s a long hike from some of the campsites to the arena.

Elephant Fair well now you’re talking! I only went to the last one in 1986 and it was fantastic from what little I remember . Don’t suppose you were at Treworgey as well were you?

How do you quote just a section?? I tried but have it all!
Just looked at your photos Tort- they are fab! (Endorse it) I just love Pronghorn! They are a fairly local band and often play in the Bournemouth/poole area.
Have they ever played Glasto?? If they did I'd be there!! Very tempted to buy tickets now- it's the cheapest one out there!! Would a woman on her own feel ok?? That will be a festival a fortnight through the summer hols! The joy of working in school now comes to fruition!! (Not for Glast though )

click quote as normal, then in the edit box, highlight the text you don;t want, making sure you leave behind the 'BBCode' intact

multi-quoting is similair, you just copy/paste the quote BBCode tags, second nature if used to it, or after some practice.

I think this year was the first time Pronghorn haven't played Glasto in about a decade. They always used to do a Thursday night gig in the Lost Vagueness Ballroom & I saw them on Blazing Saddles last year & a couple of times in Leftfield in the intervening years.
I'm sure you'd be fine by yourself but if you want to meet up with others I know people of all ages, colours & sexual persuasions at Endorse It & I'd be happy to introduce you.
e2a you might have also seen the Boot Hill Allstars round your part of the world. Flounder (banjo & vocals) and Cran (drums) are 2 of the mainstays in the EIID organising committee as well.

I only went the once and think it was '86 too. I was living in Cornwall at the time so it was a local festival. Absolutely loved it!
And yes, I certainly did go to Treworgey although I have very limited memories apart from waking up after 36 hours and wondering what I'd just eaten... That and sheltering from the rain under the sound desk, listening to Misty in Roots

Thanks Tort! I only discovered Pronghorn summer 09 and obv missed seeing them on the programme last year! I'm hoping they're at camp Bestival again working everyone upto a frenzy in the Polka tent!
Ooh , so tempted to go to Endorse it now! It's such a cheapie- and I can cut back with my camping stove and tins of beans!
Just quaffing a bottle of strawberry cider- reminiscing- Paul Simon in the sun!!

The only thing to be aware of at Endorse It if you are on a budget is you can only drink your own booze in the campsite and the bars aren't overly cheap although they do a great selection of ales & ciders. But you really have to look at it as a way of covering their costs bearing in mind how cheap the tickets are.

It's my 40th birthday next July so I want to do something good for it. I'm thinking perhaps a camping weekend with some of my festival mateys who I don't see much of Just depends how far they're willing to travel though, I think it's only fair that it's somewhere easy for me to get to!
