PLEASE PLEASE REALISE THAT FROM 11 AT NIGHT SHANGRI LAS / ARCADIA ETC WILL BE VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO REACH, ITS THE FESTIVALS PLAN, PLEASE IF YOU LOVE THIS, COME BEFORE 11. AFTER THEN ONE GATE IN WITH STRICT NUMBERS WILL COME INTO FORCE
Yup, looks like it. Mind you, we don't have 'healiner' plans, will be seeing Brit Floyd one night and Queens of the Stoneage Sunday so might be ok to get in by 11. Of course these plans are subject to change
saw this announced last week somewhere, think the enterence to the Q starts somewhere down near pedestrian gate C (enterence/exit for east campervan fields).
They had to do something as the overcrowding was crazy there last year, and was also a 1way system inplace too, but not as extensive as this years appears to be.
I had seen this warning and as I'm not the slightest bit worried about any of the headliners on Friday night we'll be hoping to get to The Hub stage nice and early (which I believe is in that area) so that I can catch Neneh Cherry (if clashfinder is fairly accurate)
Mind you, being a first-timer I'll be lucky if we find anything we intend to Hope we can escape again afterwards!
Very much have the intention of taking it as it comes, if there's huge crowds will be happy to go off and explore elsewhere.
MrsBee I ambled aimlessly last year, I had one plan for the whole weekend and that was to spend the evening at the Pyramid on Saturday night, the rest of the time was just seeing what happened
1) we're newbie's and will be severely distracted by everything
2) we're no spring chickens and will tire easily
3) the few things I really, really want to go to clash (story of my life) fleet foxes and the coral for instance, not seen either live.
None of the headliners are unmissable but will probably see Coldplay, that leaves Friday and Sunday to explore other "areas" and amble at will.
It wasn't that hard getting in if you got onto the right path heading in the right direction! The one time they stopped letting people in and we were on the other side we did the whole 'my little brothers in there on his own' routine that has got me out of/into trouble a fair few to many times I can remember

I've always taken the Amble Aimlessly approach, it's the only way. Hell, I ambled aimlessly when there was only one stage.
I think Ambling Aimlessly is on my CV...

hi folks, is there a plan available of where the access into Shangri las is going to be? i havent seen anything yet, but reading it is going to be near gate C makes it sound a long way out?
Love the ambling comments, i've been thinking about a change of career and now i've decided i want to become a professional ambler, with maybe giving ambling lessons to those preparing for their first glast

Looking at the new map of the one way system and never having been to Glasto before I'm not sure if this is a correct observation but can anyone else tell me if this new system has the potential to cause a problem with getting out of Gate C into the Campervan fields between those times if maybe there is a huge queue of people backing up waiting to go into that area?? Or is it unlikely that the waiting crowds will reach the actual gate area.
It's hard to judge distances when you've not been before and I suppose it's going to be hard to judge how many people will be attempting to get there (given the new restrictions that is)
Presumably it will be best to steer clear of that area anyway and just go somewhere else for a while till the rush dies down (in the opposite direction to gate C I guess, lol!)
It looks to me like the path is slightly off the route to gate C and there would have to be a helluva back up to block the entrance. Join the queue! Don't go backto your campervan for a few hours!
To be honest i doubt theres gonna be a queue of sorts just a lot of people all trying to get as close to it as possible before they let people onto the path

So when I first saw this thread I thought, "meh". I'm not bothered about that whole part of Glastonbury. Truthfully I've only really been there once and that was on the day / night following an extremely long and debauched night. So I was feeling kind of strung out and tired so appreciate that I may not have given it a fair crack of the whip. The whole thing just felt like a massive after party / after hours club full of absolute and utter casualties, something I was never a fan of even in my most hedonistic clubbing days way back when. So last year I never even went near the place at all.
But the thought now occurs that I might be missing out on something. So Glasto vets, tell me what, if anything, I'd be missing out on if I didn't go to Shangri La / Arcadia again this year?

Don't think i a 'vet' yet but its always worth a quick look around sahngri la at both day and night just to see what you find and to see the difference between how it looks/feels between day and night! You never know what you might find down there, rumor has it that back in 2007 Lady Gaga played a set to about 8 people before she got huge so you just never know what you might find! Also arcadia now have some weird 360degree metal spider like stage with fire lasers lights and music so they will definitely put on a good spectacle if what i saw last year is anything to go by

What's on the main stages is just background music while you chill in the sunshine (ever the optimist) waiting for Glastonbury to really start around midnight. This'll give you a vague idea of what Arcadia is about.
As for Shangr-la and other late night areas, words and video cannot even begin to describe what they're like when they're in full flow, it's something you have to experience for yourself. Personally I never go there during the day as it'll ruin some of the magic.
I LOVE Shangri-La - as they say in their write up its like being in Blade Runner, somewhere in a film where lots of bizarre things take place. I'm not into big raving party type things but just wandering round there is amazing.
if i am honest, i found the crush down there quite scarey all in all, so am planning to "amble" down there way past all the headliners (perhaps go to something else in the mean time) to wait until it dies down...

Gate C is actually being moved slightly this year so that the queue for the late night area doesn't impede anybody wanting to head out through the gate to the campervan fields.
I reckon I'll probably be spending most of Saturday afternoon & evening in there this year. The Lords of Lightning did a warm up performance early in the evening last year when there weren't too many people about so hopefully they'll do the same again this year because it does get rammo for the main show at midnight. Never yet made it into the Snakepit so that'll definitely be on the agenda and a wander into the Acid House might also be on the cards followed by a warm round the fire in Strummerville.
Tort: Hubby and I had a great time lounging in the silk-cushioned booths of the Snake Pit. Frank Sinatzi was hillariously wrong and twisted.
Slumberrave was lovely in its first year - huge beds and a chillout vibe, but it was too crowded and chaotic for my taste last time.
NYC Downlow is always fun, the stick-on tash policy was brilliant.
This year I want to get into Fish & Tits for their cabaret and definitely want to see the Arcadia show.
