Rumoured Acts...
Well whats a Glastonbury forum without rumours!
I did hear something floating at the end of Glasto 09 about Rolling Stones...
Too early to tell obviously, but who are we hoping to see at this 40th Glasto??

There was a rumour that Jagger was there this year checking it out for next year, don't know how much truth there is to that though.
Radiohead, Muse and Bowie seem to be the names that pop up the most, though I suspect it's more wishful thinking than anything else.
These are the ones I've found so far

I keep hearing different people repeating the same rumour over and over - that Emily Eavis is wanting to try and get 1 headliner from each of the past 40 years to come back and play.
I'm not naive to think Emily has actually come out and said this, but it'd be a damn interesting prospect if it was true.
But... I won't hold my breath.

People keep misquoting Emily, what she said was that they want to get one act from each year to perform, not one headliner from each year.
The problem with getting a headliner from each year would be finding previous headliners whose egos could accept not headlining this year. Not an easy task!

From the past 40 years. So one from last year, one from year before, etc.
Sounds unrealistic. Hence I'm not holding my breath.

I think they'll book acts from the past 40 years that where special for Glastonbury.
Do you know any special acts?

Rolling Stones are the bookies favourite to headline the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night, followed by Bowie and Coldplay.

They're the Japanese Martial-Arts representation of KoL and are set to replace Bjorn Again in the tribute-band slot.

It's Kings of Lyon on the list who are a Kings of Leon tribute band, not Kings of Leon themselves.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and I hope you've all already eaten your breakfast before reading this as I don't want to be responsible for anyone choking.
I've just been told that Chris De Burgh is a likely candidate!
Apparently someone at GFL has been speaking to his agent.
He's got a new album out soon and is touring Europe in Spring which adds credibility to this.
Please don't shoot the messenger.

Kyllie has been rumoured every year since she had to cancel due to cancer, I've seen no evidence to suggest she'll play this year, though you never know.

Hi,
I think U2 will be a no. From what I've heard in the past they have been asked and they have declined. U2 are very strict about TV/Video output and like to vet everything before it goes out. As this would go out live on the BBC they haven't managed to reach a compromise. I assume the BBC would insist they show them live (for the viewing figures) and U2 are sticking to "it's not shown until we have seen it and said it's ok* which I take to mean overdubbed the bad bits and removed the bad camera shots!!
On Chris De Burgh -aaaarrggg no! please god (any god!) no. The Stones, De Burgh, Andy Williams and Cliff -Saga will be running trips! On the plus side I'll feel young at a festival, which I haven't felt for a few years

U2 won’t play for the same reason Rolling Stones won’t play MONEY
neither band would get out of bed for the money Glastonbury is willing to pay, let alone put on a 90 minute performance in front of a crowd who may or may not be devoted fans without as Rich mentioned full control over TV coverage

Al Stewart for Glasto?
How about Al Stewart?
The Times posted this
|
Quote:
|
|
Exclusive: Glastonbury in talks to bring back folkstar Al Stewart, who played the first festival in 1970
|
http://twitter.com/TimesMusic/status/4885319269
The link they posted with it is for a story from May which is a very odd thing for a newspaper to tweet, so I can only assume they got the link wrong.
I searched the Times site for the correct story, but found nothing.
I'll add him to the rumoured list until I can find more information.

I've just been told by @kayaburgess who's a Times journo that the reason they linked to an old Al Stewart story is that the info isn't enough for a story in it's own right, so they linked to the last Glasto Stewart story for reference.
So Al Stewart is a definite possibility!
