I live in Croydon and have never witnessed anything like Monday night before. It was like living in the "hood".
Gangs wearing hoodies and masks roaming the streets, convoys of up to eight cars each cruising the area looking for an opportunity to get up to no good.
I saw a guy get a brick thrown in his face by four thugs. It knocked him clean out and there was blood everywhere. It took forever to get an ambulance due to their resources being stretched to the limit. We couldn't even drive him ourselves due to the hospital being on London Rd and it being a no go area as it was in flames and the centre of the trouble.
Everything was on lockdown, even 24hr petrol garages several miles away were closed. You couldn't get a pint of milk for love nor money.
All this was about four miles south of the actual riots, so you can imagine what it was like nearer the centre of the trouble.
To make things worse, the local gun shop was looted, so now even more of these idiots are running about with guns!
I did witness one good thing though, last night I saw about a dozen police vans descend upon Comet on the Purley Way from all directions and several of the looters who were captured received "appropriate treatment" for resisting arrest.
The original protesters in Tottenham had cause to be upset, but these aren't protestors, they're just mindless thugs out to destroy and steal.
