Hi Maisie, welcome to the mad mad world of glastonbury, the end of june will never ever be the same again. There are many many tips to help you on your way and somebody did put up a thread but i tried to be a forum monkey but i couldnt find it and even if i had im not sure how to post a link lol.
have a little search and if you find it then ask away on there, saves many diff threads about the same thing.
let us know if you are going in a grp, a couple or alone, approx age an reasons for going glasto....atmosphere, music, to get mashed...... im sure you will have more tips than a waiter at the end of ramadam.

Hey mate - you've picked a "Corker" for your first time, I was a 2009 virgin and loved it.com! going back next year without fail, 13 of us and can't wait!! One thing I will say is don't burn yourself out too early, we arrived Wednesday afternoon and started the 5 day session in style, by Saturday night when the Boss was playing I was fooked and had to go back to the tent.... its so easy to get drawn in to the hype as the place is amazing but just take it easy! other than that just follow the Glasto roar and enjoy!

Don't camp next to the paths, otherwise you'll have drunk/stoned/crazy people bumping into your tent all night.
Don't camp near the toilets for obvious reasons.
Camp uphill in case it rains.
Don't focus on the line-up too much, if you do, you'll miss the festival!
Not sure if this thread about what equipment to take is the one stinkywitch is talking about.

Dont take to many clothes... u dont need them.
Do take a fancy dress outfit....u may feel left out.
Dont arrive to late....finding a camping space after Wednesday is hard.
Do leave early Monday morning....traffic is a nightmare.
Best advice would be... make a list of who u want to see, dont try and see everybody cause you'll end up seeing nobody, try and pace yourself (its hard lol) after all there is something happening 24 hours a day, but most ov all just have fun :-)

Alternatively, leave late. I usually leave about 8pm after the rush has gone., though in 2000 I didn't leave until Wednesday Lost Vagueness was amazing on Mon & Tue night! Yes, it was open!
If you leave late, it's easier to find your car as it's one of the very few left in the field, and there's no traffic on the roads
There's always something happening, so you won't be bored.

we're getting a coach there seeing as there is a group of about 9 of us who can't yet drive.
I have an idea of what I want to take after in 2007 i went to a camp with 40,000 and learnt the pros and cons of big camps
But thanks with the rest. Tbh I would never have thought of the whole wearing yourslef out!

Except hot food! A monday morning/early afternoon tradition for me has become getting to the pizza stall near the other stage before they run out! 2 years in a row I've been there as they've shouted "last 10" and walked away looking cocky as 11th and 12th in the queue look around anxiously hoping someone isn't actually queuing for food...

Make sure you go with an 'up for anything' attitude. Coz as soon as your in there the people around you aren't strangers anymore, you might as well have known them for years.
I went glasto and Leeds last year and spent the whole of Leeds comparing it to glasto, it was easily the best weekend of my life. Believe the hype, you will love it. I will personally refund your ticket if you don't ;D
just need to get my own ticket first...

That was like what happened at the camp I went to!
It didn't matter who you were people would just talk to you
It was one of the aspects of the camp that I thoughroughly enjoyed !

Get lost! No, I'm not being rude, seriously, just go for a wander and see where it takes you! If you reach a big silver fence, turn around and head in another direction, you can't get so lost that you're no longer in the festival so just open your eyes and take it all in. You really can't predict what you will see, and everyone will have their own unique experience. It's magical

last year was my first year and I found -
I took too many clothes, but I was in a campervan this year just clean 3/4 shorts, t-shirt, undies for each day, a couple of warm tops, a waterproof jacket, 2 pair of boots (just in case) and a couple of emergency ponchos!
We did the early arrival and early depature and it worked for us. The arrival was hell due to motorway problems but that couldn't be helped. As a member our group was Bristol born she got us round the worst of it!
One thing I loved - the people, stood at the barrier all Saurday morning watching bands (I wanted front row for Spinal Tap) I met some great people. Same over at the Jazz Stage - I'm quiet unless people speak to me firat and they and it's fantastic - not like some gigs where people are all about themselves etc.. Worth remebering this as it makes it a great experience. Esp if your group all want to do different things as you can go solo with no worries.
Don't plan too much - I got a bit hung up on seeing bands prior to going and that was so wrong ! in the end I picked a couple a day well apart and then just picked at random as I made my way around. Depending on what you want from the festival my own thought is stay away from the main stage, unless your really want to see the band(s). Sounds odd but it's so busy and difficult to see (bloomin' flags) it ends up being like a normal gig rarther than an amazing place.
Pace - I failed on this one. I loved Junk City and Shangri-La but these place really got going late at night and I missed out due to being to tired to stay and enjoy it properly. Didn't help all my friends wanted to see bands late on and I was there by myself, might have kept going if there had been a few of us!
Top of all is, as said, get lost, wander and enjoy it. Maybe try and meet a few of us from here at Twisto as well ?
This really only reflects what else has been posted but thought I'd share my experiences a bit.
Cheers

Not sure if anybody else has said it but the most important advice I was given and still give after 11 Glastonbury’s
Take nothing you cannot afford to lose
Glastonbury is and should be 5 days of absolute blissful limbo, it won’t happen if you are constantly worried about "stuff" for 5 days it’s not worth it, leave it at home and yes this includes unneeded items like pride, arrogance and quite often dignity
