I have left early in the past { from 2 to 5 am - straight out } in various years and I would never risk trying to leave it until 8 am and if you don't want to get caught out your best to leave early .

I know loads of people who have been stuck longer than 9 hours { although it tends to get better over the years }

We left about 1pm last year, got home to North Devon by 4pm. Hardly any hold ups at all really. Got a bit congested in and around Glastonbury itself but mainly just a very easy depressed drive as it was all over for another year...

We left about 1 am on Monday morning last year. One kind soul volunteered to drive as the rest of us were trashed. But there was only one route to go out of the East campervan fields and FOUR hours later we were no nearer home having been sent in a SW direction. Eventually parked up near the bottom of the A1 so the driver could get some kip. Some people stayed in bed and slept ALL the way home

We left around 9-10am I think and did queue for quite a long time to get out of the field. I think the best bet, and what I'm doing this year, is to have a nice lie in, leisurely breakfast and set off once the traffic's all died down. I think the only other option is to go really early which is just too much of a ball ache for me. I've never understood why people are in such a hurry to get away to be honest. I've taken Tuesday off work so it doesn't matter what time I get back on Monday night really. And I'm the only driver so setting off at silly o'clock isn't an option!

In my experience (every Festival since 1994), the weather makes a huge difference. If it's been a wet one, people start drifting away throughout Sunday afternoon and evening. Last year it was pretty dry all weekend but it p155ed down Sunday night and loads were leaving between midnight and 4am; I queued for about an hour from about 3am and I only live 20 minutes away! If it's a dry one, everyone tries to leave between about 8am and noon on Monday so it's a nightmare.

Whatever the weather, if you can afford to hang around, Monday afternoon is best.

I've always left at around 2pm and never qued for more than an hour. I live in Hull so always book a hotel in Worcester to split the journey up and clean etc!! Normally get there for about 5-6pm!!
