Never camped there (or anywhere to the north of the site for that matter) but it’s handy for the two main stages, the John Peel Stage & the Dance Village and also a relatively short walk from Gate A which is useful if you’re arriving by bus or train. It is however a long walk from most of the late night attractions. Because of its convenient positioning it fills up fairly quickly so you’d probably have to get there Wednesday morning to get a space. The food stalls in that area tend to be a bit naff so look elsewhere for your nosebag. It is also fairly flat and low lying and you get a lot of foot traffic through there with people moving between the Pyramid & John Peel so it could get very boggy in a wet year or dusty in a dry one. The track that runs along the bottom of the field is also the main vehicle access so you're likely to get noise from tour buses etc 24 hours a day.

In short it’s ideal for main stage whores and the National Express mob but not so great for night owls, festival food connoisseurs and anybody who just fancies a bit of peace & quiet occassionally.

This FAQ section is great, this is my first post & first Glastonbury, but not my first festival. I have had friends go in previous years and the stories they have to tell is amazing, I want to explore most places then I will be armed with my walking shoes

thanks for the great advice once again tort .... not that fussed about food being great, may have to rethink if the weather is foul.

theres 10 in our group and some of them are interested in the dance village (not me, im not going to glasto to listen to dj's) only music i am really interested in and will not miss is dan le sac and scroobius pip, beardyman, morissey and u2 .. so friday night is tied down .. the rest of the time i will just be going where ever i fall down !

myself and girlfriend are travelling from northern ireland via boat and car ... there are carparks around gate A yes ??

Hi,

I camp in Lower Mead every year. Its ok (not going to big it up too much, as I would like to camp in my usual spot!)

Its not far from Gate A, and yes you can park your car (releatively close). It does get busy tho.

Obviously if your going to be at John Peel a lot, its ideal. The Other Stage is about 10 - 15mins one way, Pyrimid same the other way. As mentioned, the park, stone circle, shangri la etc are a trek, but then thats only if your setting off from your tent everytime!!

The nearest toilets get a bit "used" as they are the main ones adjacent to John Peel, but if you look towards the top of the field, theres a secret stash of bogs that seem to rarely get used (and i not talking about the bush in the middle!).

It does get noisy round there tho, so if your after a decent nights kip I wouldnt bother. The bar on the main track was a lot busier and louder last year, pumping out until 2-3am. Then in the morning, the John Peel starts sound checking, warming up about 9am. And as mentioned, the main access route for the buses, trucks etc that head to Pyrimid passes Lower Mead.

Hope this help!!
