Default If family camping full up, where would you suggest?
In a previous thread, it was suggested that due to the time we will arrive that cockhill will be full (early thur morn) and the wicket ground alternative was mentioned. So Ive been having a look at the maps and found the wicket ground a little further away than I would ideally like, out of the rest of fields which would you good peeps suggest? Two adults, three kids 15-11-8. We dont mind a bit of noise, its just I would like us to be as near to the Kidzfield as we can.

(I dont mind sleeping under the electric pylons if we have to!)

If we parked up and the family camping was full would we have to hike all our gear to the other family camping area? Or could we juts squeeze in any where?

Thanks.

To be honest you're not going to find anything closer to the Kidz Field that fills up any less quickly than Wicket (unless you don't mind camping at a 45 degree angle). I'd head there if I were you.

Cheers tort. It was you that suggested that before wasnt it.. well the plan is to be out of the tent all day anyway. The only prob would be the hike back to sleep. I guess thats my main concern, as on google earth the site looks massive. Can you give me a rough idea how long it would take to walk back to wicket from say, the circus area?

Walking times depend on a lot of different factors such as how busy the site is & how muddy it gets. The most direct route might not be the fastest especially if it takes you through one of the main arenas when a big name act is playing.

To give you a rough idea of scale the site is 1.5 miles from top to bottom and 1 mile across. Pick up one of the detailed maps from the info points when you get there. They are conveniently divided into 100m squares. From that you'll be able to see that it's roughly 1km from Wicket to the Circus Big Top or a bit further circumnavigating the Pyramid Field.

Until your in there you will never "get" just how big the site is (trust me, was blown away 1st time)
and the distance you will walk with all your stuff will depend on which carpark you come in?
Cockmill meadow's great for younger kids,my sons 10 and just gets up and goes but my 15 yr wants us to camp elsewhere (not happening)
Best advice i could give ya is.....Ask the stewards on the carpark gates to radio through and see which family camps are full, then head to the carpark closest to where your camping
in answer to your question, would you have to walk.......Hell yeh! 1st time i walked the whole way across site with all my stuff ,
so asking 1st is the key (wish somebody had told me hahaha)
Good Luck

why would familys want to camp in the family field? surley theres no difference in camping in the normal fields there ll still be noise all day and night and after all its Glastonbury and the kids are there to explore and learn and have fun.
Im taking my family for the first time this year and were camoing where ever our feet take us or where ever the stewards tell us.

I can see your point, its just the main family camping field is right next to the Kidz field, so will be handy. Failing that any field the nearer the better would be great..we wont mind a bit of noise...failing THAT then it would more than likely be the new family camping, but the distance from the action looks unfathomable on the map.

You don't seem to get all the foot flow at the end of acts going through the family camping area. That does make a diff imo.
