How much space should you tape off around your tent?
How much space would yo say is acceptable?
I say no more than a metre or so. If its a few tents a metre round the perimiter and some spage in the middle of the camp to sit round a fire.

How much tape is acceptable? I'd say none.
Taped off areas are a nuisance, selfish, antisocial and a tripping hazard (in more ways than one) when you're trying to navigate your way back to your own tent, especially at night.
If you want to make a camp, form a circle with your tents with a communal area in the middle, but don't put tape around it, you'll only piss off other people if you do.

How do you stop strangers walking through your camp without taping off your space?

You don't, the space belongs to them as much as you. The "strangers" are only trying to get to or from their own tents, if everyone tapes off their own little areas it'll make it impossible to move around the camp sites.
The best way to reduce the number of people walking through is to chose your camping spot carefully e.g. stay away from the paths and other areas that're likely to get a lot of traffic.

I see..
So what happens when you don't tape off your space, make your camp with plenty of space for drunken scousers to walk through and fall all over your tents and then come back that evening to have a fire only to find that someones put a big fat tent right in the middle of your camp where you were going to have your fire?
You say, "oi you, move your tent" and they say "no way, it took ages to put up. We had no way of knowing that this was your camp because you didnt tape it off" and you say "now you listen to me you southern sounding puff, move your tent!" and they say "Southern sounding puff? Come here and say that." so you go there and say that and they turn out to be a black belt in karate. What then?

We have 5 tents and every year we make sure that we pitch them around a space that will not be near paths also make sure we build a fire first night and its always quite big, my mate is a bit of a pyro !!!! we never get anyone attempting to pich a tent in the middle. Also depends where you camp if you camp down by the stages or dance area you will get people pitching there tents in any space but if you camp in the outlaying area's far from stages etc you will get more space.

NO! you say "Hello new friends, wanna beer, can we make a bit more space for a fire that we can share?" They say, yea of course this is a friendly festival..."
Kurb that attitude Davros and take it back to Reading.

The same if they are judgmental bigots. Tolerance of your fellow man/woman is part of that glasto vibe.

I mean it to the same extent that I think the concept tent that I posted about that auto tapes its self off, digs a moat and then shoots anyone who enters the taped parimiter would be a good idea.
So in other words, yes.
