Cool How early?
Just how early did you have to arrive to find a pitch in the family field? We finished up what seemed miles from the car park. Left car in E10 and camped in Hitchin Field. Spoke with folks who arrived 6.30 am on Wednesday and Family Field was full then! Huge thanks to the two Oxfam Angels who pulled our laden trolley up the final hill.

All a bit like child birth - agony soon forgotten, had a wonderful time, ready for the next one...

u walked from the east side to Hitchin Hill Ground which is right by the west gate entrance? Yup, it didn't just seem like miles, it is miles away! Not sure when, or if HH filled up, but certainly didn't fill as quickly as a lot of the rest, and when I wandered round it on the Saturday it was pretty uncrowded, though you may have struggled if wanting to pitch a large 8person type tent.

Cockmill Meadow is much closer to the east entrance, and I would cast a little doubt on anyone saying it was full at 6.30am on the Wednesday as it would be impossible to fill it 90minutes before the gates actually open! Though I do suppose it is possible that this does fill, which may be the reason for turning Hitchin Hill and Wickett Ground into family camping areas.

Maybe they should do family camping parking, give you guys brave enough to bring kids a little less of a walk!

OMG thanks Roo. I wonder if some Tuesday night arrivals were let in? No matter. We just went where directed. Apparently part of our usual spot was taken for recycling depot this time. We don't actually have children with us (except we're the biggest kids of all), so must have been very lucky to be able to use family field in previous years. Hitchin was great, not overcrowded, a really lovely bunch of neighbours. Anyone with a negative view of the "younger generation" hasn't been to Glasto. Those we meet are fun, kind, helpful. So, next time: bring less stuff - do it in one trip from car; come in to west side, aim for Hitchin. See you in 2013!
