Help-a newbie seeking advice for 2013
My wife and I have hoped to one day attend the festival and we are trying to plan for 2013. We determined that this forum would be the most welcoming as well as have advice from the most seasoned festival attendees. We will be traveling from the US and would welcome any advice from pre-planning, getting there, accommodations and maybe where to stay after the festival for a few days to take in all that we experienced. As a newbie any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Hope to here from you.

Welcome friends. First thing to do is to read all the frequently asked questions on this, the most helpful of all websites, by Tort, a regular contributor on here.
http://www.glastoearth.com/the-faq
Coming from the US you want to make the most of your stay, so come for 2 weeks at least and make sure you are here in time to get into the festival as soon as possible. Often Wed and Thursday are the most amazing days, as everyone lets go of their day to day lives, the anticipation builds, and the party starts. Main stages open on Friday.
Prepare to be amazed. Prepare for so much more than the music. Prepare for the best festival in the World.
Best to read the website above first then come back with specific questions and we'll do our best to answer them.
Oh, and good luck getting a ticket. Its a bit of a lottery !

Wow, that's an early 2013 post! Fabulous, we like you already!
First of all, as Mart44 has said, reading Tort's FAQ (more of a wondrous journey than a FAQ to be honest) is a really good place to start.
Secondly, this forum is a really useful place for all kinds of info, tips and advice, so stay tuned. It's going to be quiet here for a while I should think as we all nurse our post Glastonbury hangovers. It'll pick up in October as we all prepare for the great Ticket Purchasing Panic and Euphoric Woo-Hooiness that is the Ticket Sale Weekend. After that you won't be able to move for questions and answers! But I promise you now, there won't be a question you can ask that someone here won't be able to answer! So line them up, think about what you need to know and get asking. It's a damned friendly forum and no one will mind you asking lots of random questions!
There will be a meet of all the regular folks here on the Thursday of the festival to which I warmly extend an invite to you now! All are welcome!
So until June 2013 I have just one thing to say to you:

Thank you both
Thank you for your quick response. We realize that you all are recuperating from all the fun had at the festival so your attention to our starting slew of questions shows just how much of a family you all are. We will be registering now and will wait anxiously to see if we are some of the lucky ones to be able to reserve tickets. As the months fly by, we will be in touch. Thanks for the website suggestions and we will review all the FAQ's to see what we still need guidance with. Look forward to maybe meeting you all some day, maybe in 2013. Thanks again and talk to you later.

Good luck with getting tickets, and I concur, Tort's guide is brilliant, full of useful information and tips about what you will need. It's long, so either make sure you have a couple of hours spare, or take it in bite size chunks, but be sure to enjoy reading it
Take special notice of the safety and security section, how to keep your stuff safe and make sure that you avoid some of the pitfalls of being in a huge field with 200,000 other people. Unfortunately there are a tiny minority of scumbags who we need to protect ourselves from, like anywhere you would go, but it's easy to do if you just take on the hints and tips provided. Don't worry too much though, it is a tiny minority, and a few basic precautions will make sure that you have a fantastic time without any problems.
There are lots of hotels and bed and breakfasts around Somerset, make sure you book early because they do get busy at festival time, I usually book one for the night before and the night after the festival, so that I can get in early, and afterwards I can have a shower and a good night's sleep before heading off home. Prepare to need a holiday to recover from this holiday

Never having been in a position thinking ahead during a fallow year I am correct in thinking you're referring to Oct 2011? Are tickets for 2013 going to go on sale this October or will it be Oct 2012? If its this year I may well have to beef up all our internet connections and make sure I have a team of willing family memebers and friends to set up an impromtu phone bank!

Ah, no, a little premature action on my part there Hold fire everyone! I am of course referring to Oct 2012.
Blame the Guinness, the hour, my Pooh Bear-sized brain and an inability to cope with the world outside the fence...
(I have now checked these details with Lou and apparently I am correct this time. Any further errors on my part can now be blamed on her...)

I've already started on the first draft for the 2013 FAQ while everything is still fresh in the memory and have stacks of new photos to include so keep checking for updates.

Hi there - amazingly the registration site is already open for 2013 http://www.glastonburyregistration.com/ and while there is no mad rush going on reports { as I work at Glastonbury so have never needed to register via that system } there can be some glitches re uploading images so its always best to get it out the way .
Tort's FAQ will fill in all the gaps as others have pointed out.
I presume your not flying over with all your camping gear so if you have a relative in the UK you can then save by using the Internet or even better asking them if they have any spare camping gear - well if you don't ask you will never know.
As it happens I had two friends from Iceland who were in a similar situation in 2009 - I sorted out their camping gear but due to them being at a conference beforehand it was not possible for them to store their bags with me but they were able to leave their bags at their Hotel and they met me on-route to the Coach pick up point.
They had followed my instructions re clothes as its near impossible to predict what the conditions would be like { 2009 was wet at the start and then dried up }
The key is to only take what you need
I have some images of them working with me - starting at http://www.wbc-team.co.uk/glasto-200...asto-2009.html
the two on the right http://www.wbc-team.co.uk/glasto-200...o-2009-41.html
they had a great time and they would have been back in 2010/2011 but they lost a bomb in the Icelandic banking crash { and their Government cant afford to compensate them } so they plan to get back in 2013 and I will sort out places for them.
So it can be done with a bit of planning.
You should plot it all out assuming you will be lucky with the tickets { its claimed but I have no stats to back this up that its easier to reach them using the overseas number }
Good luck and you never know 2013 may be dry.

I am actually slated to pay the next one a visit as well though I am not quite sure how it is going to keep up when I have to be back in London for a direct flight home. That is the only piece of date I could work with so that left me with no chance to extend.
What do you think is the best route and time frame to leave before things get stuffed and stuck on the way?

sorry can you be more clear - are you driving or using public transport ?
and what time/day do you have to be at the airport at ?
if you have a car its easy as its possible to leave late at night - just take a good torch as some of the carparks are very dark.
One year I was loading up my car but because I had a crew pass I was told at Gate D that I did not need a ' passout ' { or whatever its called } - I was parked right beside the gate in staff parking - three times I went in and out just showing my crew pass but when I had one last trip to make as I walked in a new guy asked me for my passout and I explained that his predecessor advised me that I did not need one - this was early on Monday morning and all i wanted to do was pick up one last bag and drive home - I was able to speak to a supervisor who did see me walking in and out so they let me in.
As far as I understand the rules have changed since then but it was lucky I had been spotted.

New to the forums. Went to Glasto 2009 Great Time! Heading back for Glasto 2013 already planning. I am from Canada and if there is a few things I can tell ya would be:
1. As plenty of people said it is really really big No I mean really really big. I under estimated just how big this wonderful place is.
2. If you have not been before. Camping in the general madness area is well MADNESS. I would stay there at the ripe old age of 30 but my wife would never in a million years. It would definitely be an experience.
Love this forum already.
Can't wait and it is over a year away
