Thumbs down Heavy rain, thunderstorms and flash-flooding predicted
That's what The Telegraph are predicting

Quote:
June will see no prolonged periods of hot weather and instead send people reaching for umbrellas to deal with heavy rain, thunderstorms and even flash-flooding.

That could spell disaster for the Glastonbury music festival, which runs from June 22 to 26, and has been turned into a quagmire by rain in previous years – although last year was bone dry.

Considering the Met only does 5 day weather forecasts, I have a feeling it might be over-exaggerated.. or at least, I hope. We all know what the press is like!

I could have told you this -
"It will be mix of dry, sunny and warm days plus some cooler, cloudier and wetter conditions."

So... pretty much a bit of everything there then.

i'm sure they said the same thing last year, and it couldn't of been any different, the final weather prediction that was actually correct was made 2 days before the actual event.

I doubt we'll ever get one as exceptionally and constantly hot as last year, but surely its far too early to predict June's weather accurately. As Telenova says all the predictions for last year were way off until just a few days before the start.
I for one am thinking positively - it can rain NEXT year.

Of course not! Predicting the weather more than 3 days in advance is a complete lottery.

Short Answer-No. Not with any great accuracy.
We get forecasts at work from various sources with a range of predictions between 1 week and 3 months. The long range ones (1 Month Plus) are at best 60% accurate.
According to ones we received at Xmas we were all going to be under 6ft of snow at the end of February and grit stocks were going to run out leading to Critical shortages everywhere.
We now carry out some of our planning by sticking our heads out of the window-it has about the same success rate

I agree with you that its highly unlikely we will ever encounter a very hot Glastonbury ' two years in a row ' and I for one cant recall any two years when this has been the case in the past.

Personally due to medical side effects which I cant do anything about last year was murder for me and I was praying for a few overcast days - I was like a vampire for most of the time and if I was not working at Glastonbury I would certainly have had gone home early { even when it was very wet and muddy I never ever thought about going home early }

I reckon Positive Weather Solutions was just after a bit of free publicity and they have made the prediction so wide just to cover their own backs.

Time will tell

After a summer in Bahrain i'm looking forward to a bit of rain - but just a bit though! There's no way it will rain at all, i wanted the same last year and look what happened - i hope i'm the lucky charm for the weather - i doubt it though! In the end rain, snow or sun it makes no difference i'm still going to be there on Tuesday and even though this is my first visit alone its still the highlight by a mile of my whole year

Last year I asked the vicar I work with to have a word with his boss and looked what happened!
I have promised to be a good girl if he will do the same again this year.

Really can't believe that anyone is putting any faith in weather forecasts months in advance.

If the forecast the day I leave for the festival is for sun I would still pack my wellies and if the forecast was rain I would still take my sun cream. It's Britain for Pete's sake!

I'm sure another source said it was going to be a hotter summer this year?

Also, not sure how it'll be for me in the wet, i've heard completely different, but, i'll just have to experience it i think. Last year was my first, and what a one to go to!

my first year was 2007 which rained a lot and it is a very different place, it took about 3 months to realise that i did actually want to go again, its hard work but still just as much fun!

2007 was nothing - I survived 85 { which is in Michael Eavis top three of worst years } but the drainage is far better than it used to be so unlikely it will ever get as bad as that year.

When you see Tractors being stuck in the mud and they had to call for a bigger tractor to tow them out you know its serious.

1985 may not have been one of the wettest years but it certainly was one of the muddiest.

The wet years really sort the men from the boys and it’s noticeable how much people’s appetite for the festival drops off after a really muddy one. 2007 still holds the record for the fastest ever sell out (100 minutes) and yet 2008 didn’t sell out until the Thursday of the festival itself. That wasn’t entirely down to the Jay-Z factor!

The muddy years are tough! It takes an eternity to get from A to B and is much more tiring. There are less places to sit down and if you don’t have a decent and well pitched tent and proper wet weather clothing you’re going to be cold, wet and miserable for most of the weekend. The circus & theatre fields are much less fun because the walkabout performers are restricted. The tented stages are a lot more packed as people shelter from the rain. Tempers fray and the whole atmos is generally a lot less pleasant and then to cap it all it takes hours to get towed out of the carpark on Monday.

Last year was too damn hot but give me a dry festival over a wet one any day.

Well this has to be a record - have just received my WBC allocation for Glastonbury so will be working at it again this year { some years I may not hear until May } -

I agree its nice if its dry { or even overcast } but I can do without the scorching sun.

Well I have my WBC Coach booked so with any luck should be onsite and tent up by 3 pm Tuesday and then will be on a wander to see who I run into.

God knows who is playing but who cares as I will always find something to keep me occupied.

Last year was amazing for my first time but the heat really got to me and I felt constantly tired, we spent so much time in the day just trying to find shade. I'd love it be around 22 degrees with a bit of sun, that would be perfect but whatever happens bring it on!

Last year i was up a 30ft tower, in a paper hat with a white umbrella having a ball and making sure you lot were ok.
This year i want the same weather, but with less burnt people, burnt kids/babies, dust and not running away from a broken poo hoover. (poo flash flood) grim!
Tho mud or shine, bring it on!!!

2009 started with rain overnight Thursday = mud, then it dried up and was sunny until a huge thunderstorm Sunday night = more mud! That would be fine again as the paths were like rock by Saturday!

the worst thing about the rain is not being able to sit anywhere you like and just people watch or whatever coz everywhere is caked in mud

Well that does look better, but (there's always a but!) we really do need the rain to happen now for a week or two to soak into that Glasto ground (and my veg!) Just thinking of how dusty and hard it was last year and we'd had rain the week before. Need the grass to be green and lush at the start!
