Default Having a logistical nightmare!!
Hello all,

It'll be my first Glasto this year and I'm taking my 7yr old son.

Friends of ours are travelling down in a motorhome and we will be staying with them.
Now I realize I can't park my car by the motorhome so now I'm having a panic about parking miles from the campervan field and having to lug me, child & tons of stuff over miles of fields to the campervan field from my car..

I'm coming from Devon, they are flying into Birmingham airport and picking the vehicle up from there. I've looked into meeting them somewhere and parking my car up but can't find somewhere convenient for us to meet and also that I can leave my car safely for 5 days, so that's not looking like a do-able option.

Any help or tips on which car park to aim for and how far it'll be to the campervan field would be really welcome. I'm starting to stress!

Many thanks in advance!

You'll need to know which side campervan field firstly as east or west is option, this should cut down big bit of a trek if done wrong!

As for other tips, unfortunately you'll only have the option of east or west enterence and the stewards will direct you both to the relevant fields, and location within the field, they are filling at that time.

Can't see anyway round this as I know neither of you will get a choice of which field to park in, so you may have to trust to luck and a big trolley!

Thanks so much for your quick reply!

They are in the east.

Looks like we'll just have to go for it and hope for the best!

What about shepton Mallet? you could park in the big car park at the loos in the town centre... or leave it in one of the wee streets just off there..

you'll need to make sure you appproach from the East ( i.e. A37 ) and NOT through Glastonbury, otherwise you'll be directed to the West car parks, and that will be one hell of a trek to where your frinds campervan will be, and UP the hill of death

Thank you so much!

I'll look into Shepton Mallet for sure!

Hmm..don't fancy the hill of death. I've worked out my route and it's much easier for me to do the A37, so thanks for the tip!

Really grateful for your help

No problem, just remember, once you've lugged your gear from wherever you park to the campervan you'll have 5 of the best days of your life ahead of you

If you manage to find somewhere to meet but can't leave the car (or not happy to do so) at least they could then take some of your gear for you so that you don't have to lug it with you when you trek from the car park. Good luck, hope it works out ok.

Blimey you're all so nice!

I'm excited, I go to gigs and other festivals a lot but never with child in tow, looking forward to 5 days of silliness.

Hi, I would deffo try and meet them before hand if i were you. If it wasn't you're first time at glasto it would be ok because you would know your direction, and if you know where to go its a relatively nice walk from one side of the fest to the other, on the other hand if you dont know where your going you can loose hours looking at sign posts/maps etc . We were in the campervan fields a few years back and our friends were in the same position as you, they were in the car parks, she was pregnant and had a 3 year old. They are old hands at glasto, but it was pissing down and turning dark and they had a total nightmare mission getting thru the fest with all their stuff/kids/bump etc! All their bags and contents get drenched and it made the first day a little miserable for them

Not that is going to be raining this year mind

So my advice is meet them before. CAnt you leave your car at one of the service stations?

All the best, you will have a fantastic weekend what ever!!

I agree with the 'meet them before you get near the site' approach. Find a suitable place to park and get them to meet you there, around Bristol is probably an idea in a supermarket or the like. Once you approach the festival site things will get a lot more tricky and your friends will not be overly happy about waiting around this area.

Enjoy.
