Glastonbury Tent Size?
Hi everyone,
I've been trying to find helpful information about tent sizes on Google but haven't got very far with it! Me and my boyfriend are new to Glastonbury and we were wondering how big our tent can be for just us two? We are going in a group of 8 people, and we're getting there on Tuesday so we can pitch tents early etc. What does everyone think? Is there a general rule of thumb? Thanks!

For two people, I'd say a 3 man tent will be just fine.
Don't take up too much unecessary room, other people might wanna camp in the same field as you
For four of us, we're taking a five man tent. That extra space will be for all our stuff.
One man means it will sleep one man. You'd be lucky to fit a hiking rucksack in as well.
Two man means one person + stuff, or two people + no stuff.
Etc etc.

General rule of thumb for a minimum is a tent one man bigger than the number of people you have. The thought of lugging it in and pitching it normally defines the maximum . We've just upsized as I couldn't sit upright in the one we've used till now. Almost lead to an accident last year when trying to put on trousers, whilst bursting for the loo in the middle of the night . Still got about the same sleeping area but now have a taller porch .

No limits other than what you think you'll be able to carry for anything up to 2 miles.

What we do in our group is me and my mate share a 4 man with a decent sized porch and have most of our groups stuff in it but we have a lot of stuff!
Like stardustjunkie says its normally however many in your tent plus one for the right size tent but you could feasibly have any size tent you wish if you think you can carry it

I think the general rule is just be considerate, don't go and have a 12 man tent just for the two of you, I've got a 2 man tent with a little porch, for myself which is just about right - bear in mind you will both have stuff to keep you going for 5 days plus lots of booze and other supplies.
The porch is a great addition for keeping wet things, and things such as muddy wellies - I've got a feeling the poncho and wellies will see some serious use this year

I was thinking of gettng one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pro-Action-20M...item19c644d877 and putting a neon "HOTEL" sign over it.
Seriously though, as previous advice, the 'man' they measure tents with is a very skinny bloke. Go for '1 man' more than you need and make sure you've got a space inside for your boots. I know some unscrupulous gits who *recycled* wellies in wet years.

There was one of these not far from us in Pennards last year, there were about 10 blokes in it though. Wonder how they decided who would carry it?

Thanks for the replies everyone, they've all been very helpful!
We decided to go for a 5 man tent (with the understanding that all the group can go in there to get changed/cleaned etc!). Also gonna pack a small 3 man tent in the car just in case there's no space on the field/if people get a bit annoyed about it so hopefully we're covered!
We ended up going for this one....

Fingers crossed it won't look out of place!

More likely that it will look like every other tent there!

A note of caution on that score though. My first year there we all navigated our way back to our van via the big Yorkshire Rose flag that was on the van next to ours. Which was fine until one night when it had fallen down. Cue an hour or so of stumbling around the campervan field in the dark and cold until I found the van completely by accident. The moral of the story? Have your own flag attached to your van / tent AND take note of where you're parked / pitched as much as possible on the first day BEFORE you start drinking or smoking! This is a lot easier in the van fields due to the fire lanes so they're all in straight lines. How anyone ever finds their tent is a total and utter mystery to me.

camp under the pylons!! that way you always find your tent... just a bit noisy.. if I can possibly say that for glastonbury!! tee hee...
Def if there are a few of you... earlier the better and fling all the tents on the ground while you pitch.. to claim your pitch! I'ts just such fun!!!
One year we came back to find we could not get into our tent for all the tents pitched round it... gently we repositioned one of the tents so we could at least open the zip!!
