Default Glastonbury Fayre Manifesto, 1971
On a lighter note than the ticket for sale thread:

This should make us all smile

Glastonbury Fayre Manifesto,1971 Glastonbury Fair will be held at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Shepton mallet Somerset, from Sunday June 20th to Thursday June 24, encompassing Midsummer’s Day. It will be a fair in the medieval tradition, embodying the legends of the area, with music, dance, poetry, theatre, lights and the opportunity for spontaneous entertainments. There will be no monetary profit
– it will be free.
Man is fast ruining his environment. He is suffering from the effects of pollution; from the neurosis brought about by a basically urban industrial society; from a lack of spirituality in his life; and a spiritual awakening.
Glastonbury is rich in legends. It was here Joseph of Arimathea is said to have brought his young nephew, Jesus, and later to have returned with sacred relics to found the early Christian church in Britain. It was here that King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table are said to have carried out their quest for the Holy Grail. It was here that the ancient druids are said to have been initiated into the secrets of the Universe and here the Priestess’ of Avalon kept the mysteries of the Earth. It is a magical place.
Worthy Farm lies in the Vale of Avalon some seven miles from Glastonbury. Pilton was once a port (although it is now 20 miles from the sea). Legend says the St. Joseph of Arimathea and his nephew Jesus once visited the village on their way to the tin and lead mines nearby. The farm is 110 acres of pastureland forming a natural amphitheater facing the proposed site for the stage. Glastonbury Tor stands at the edge of the valley and is clearly visible from all parts of the farm. The lay line between Glastonbury and Stonehenge runs a few yards from the stage site. The hills on the opposite side of the valley go to make up the sign of Sagittarius in the zodiacal plan; the country which lies between the farm and Glastonbury is Capricornus, and the Tor itself is Aquarius. The site lies on the solstice axis of the Zodiac.

Peace

Thanks for posting this I love a bit of history. Most people forget what it was originally all about, I love Glastonbury town itself and visit regularly and also have a friend there who is a priesess of Avalon, oddly enought she's never been to the festival.

I want to buy the book 'Intolerably Hip' by Andrew Kerr which is all about how the festival began and he's going the be at the festival too!

I'm reading Glastonbury, An oral history of the music, mud and magic.
Loads of input from Andrew Kerr. Some amazing stories. A must buy

It's a brilliant read!

Phew! Glad we sorted that out in the intervening 40 years, we'd be screwed otherwise.
