Default Glastonbury economics - please enlighten a foreign Glasto virgin!
Hi,

First time to Glastonbury Festival this year. Coming "all the way" from Norway. I just have some questions regarding the prices on things inside the festival. Food? Alcohol? And what else cost money that's not included in the ticket price? Is there really any other significant expences than food and beverage? I won't bring a fat wallet on site and I want to plan the economics a little. I know that food and beer is much cheaper in the UK than in Norway. Around 3£ for a pint! Regular pub/bar price in Norway is around 7-8£!! I plan to do a little shopping on a supermarket beforehand, but is it regular pub/bar prices inside the site? I was in London at the HMV NYE party with Foals and Caribou and I've never been that intoxicated on so little money before.

Hello! You will LOVE Glastonbury, its amazing.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the prices coming from Norway, I can't actually remember the price of anything though but it will definately be less than in Norway!

The only other thing you might want to spend money on is the SHOPPING! There are tons a great things to buy (if you want to cart it all the way home) and then there's all the crafty things to do and the healing fields.

So, yes there is lots of things to spend money on if you want to, some people do take all their food and alcohol with them, others go all out and buy everything there (like me).

Have a great time!

Last years prices were about £3.50 - £4.00 a pint as far as I remember. So yeah much cheaper than home for you :-)

Yeah, I think I'm going to remain on site! I can't shop too much as I don't want to pay a small fortune for overweight when I return home.

Thanks! Have a great time :-)

You've probably got the idea just how awesome the festival experience is, I hope you find it the same. As to prices, I seem to remember that you can get a decent plate of vegetarian food for about £6 to £8 and a cup of tea for about £1.50 to £2. That said, I hear you can get free food at the Hare Krishna tent, and there's some great group chanting going on in the evenings!

The best thing to do is to bring as much alcohol as you will want and can carry on site from a super market as you can end up paying upwards of 30 or 40 quid a day depending on how much time you spend drinking!

With food buy it all on site. You can find every sort of food imaginable somewhere on site all for a decent price. You can get half a pizza for bout 4quid and noodles for about 7, this is cheaper than it costs to buy these in mancheser!

The price list below is not from Glastonbury but a similar2010 festival and they are roughly the same prices and drinks range so you have to add in tax changes - transport costs etc etc so 10p or 20p more.

Please be advised that most bars will refuse to serve you if you are intoxicated and while some others will claim they got served while being unconscious that is not going to happen.

Bar staff will take a sensible approach but if someone is falling over themselves before reaching the bar they will be told to wander off as its against UK Law to sell to someone who is drunk or stoned.

Take a sensible approach and pace yourself and you will enjoy it a lot more.

Check out Torts excellent FAQ which is a work of art
