Glasto virgin essential tips please
Hi I'm going down via a coach from Manchester on the Wednesday. I can't bloody wait but I've quite a few queries on what I'll need to pack and prepare for!
I've read there is a town near glastonbury that you can get a free shuttle bus to and from, do these buses actually go regularly? I was thinking of not bringing too much booze down and then just taking a trip to the town on thursday or friday to top up alco and food. Is it easy enough to get to the nearest off license or would you recommend just bringing everything you need with you in the first place? Also is it a long trip to this nearest town?
Where is it recommended to camp? I've read about some obvious places to avoid for example below the toilets etc but where else would you avoid. It'll just be me and my girlfriend but we're still up for a good party area. We're thinking it would be best to camp near a security tour to avoid our stuff getting stolen while the festival is on or is this not really a worry at glasto?
As I've said we'll be going on the wednesday so am guessing we'll have plenty of choice in the fields so want to make sure we get the best possible spot!
All and any tips would be appreciated!

Once you get onto the site you really really won't want to leave to buy beer. I promose, years ago the shops in and around Glastonbury shut down for the festival, not sure if thats still true or not.
Seriously take enough beer or enough money to buy it there. I hate leaving the house to go to the shop never mind the festival lol

Bring waterproofs. The more people who bring waterproofs, the less likely it is that they will be needed. I have scientific proof of this.
Yep. Scientific.

I think you will regret not taking the booze with you, I would imagine it will be a quite a hassle to get to Glastonbury (although technically the site is closer to Shepton Mallet), there is a big Morrisons in Glastonbury but I have no idea where the shuttle would drop off or the times of it.
Someone might.
Have a great festival though, don't worry about your stuff, don't take anything too expensive, keep valuables with you and stay well away from the loos

In 2009 & 10, I think about 85% people had arrived by the Wed night. So don't presume just because you are going early you will get a good spacious spot to camp in. And you can be sure when you wake up in the morning you will have more neighbours in spaces you didn't think possible.
Pack small, take things out of boxes/containers etc the less packaging the better. mini toothpaste, Camping/travel towels are lighter and take up less space and can be rolled up as a pillow. Don't take thick fleeces that take up too much space just a thin one will do. Take 2 pairs of long socks if you have wellies!! (i.e a dry pair if the others get wet with sweat/mud/rain)
The shop's and Bars in Glasto really do have most things but depending on your budget it might be better to bring it with you. I really wouldn't recommend getting any shuttle buses to the 'outside' It's just more hassle than it's worth. Add to it, that you might be knee deep in mud..... Just makes life a lot harder.
If you pitch your tent on a hill ensure the opening is downhill & sleep with your head up hill. Otherwise you'll have a massive wet headache in the morning.
Take a few easy food & drink items like : Kenco 3 in 1 coffee (all you need to add is the hot water, which you might be able to get from a nice neighbour) and they come in little sachets which you can stuff into small places when packing. Crisps will just end up as dust but take little snack bars etc. There are so many food stalls that cater for pretty much every taste and little shops onsite that sell bread/cereal etc. The Milk tractor is always delivering though out the day.

Pennard Hill sounds like the best bet then, I'll make my way there! We're from Belfast too so hoping the Irish charm will get us somewhere!!
I've read people talking about bringing granny trollies to pack the booze, sounds like a plan, anything else you'd recommend similar to this??

If you're going to use a trolley you want something much sturdier, and if it's muddy you're pretty much fecked.

You see so many people trying to get about with small wheeled trollies but they simply do not work, you need to be packing something more industrial with very sturdy wheels as if they fall of there just a right bitch to deal with

If you want crisps, Pringles survive the journey quite well.

I'm no fan of pringles, it's real potato chips all the way for me!

Last year there were 'wheelbarrow' taxis to carry your stuff for a small donation. Handy if you can find them.

You lucky lucky person - there's nothing quite like the first time! Use the lock-up for everything you won't need (including clean kit for going home in), take cash and 1 card, buy everything to eat n drink and don't even think about leaving the site. As Glasty said earlier, Glastonbury is our universe and you'll leave it a better and happier soul! Enjoy
