Glass Bottles
This is my first Glastonbury and staying in a caravan. When you read on the info on Glasto webiste is says no bottles of any kind allowed on the site. Does that mean that you cant have them in your van/tent either? I can put my vodka supply into plastic bottles so not too bothered, but dont want to run the risk of getting anything confiscated. Any advice will be great. Cheers.

Definitely no glass bottles anywhere onsite, including the campervan fields and that extends to jars of food, bottles of perfume and even mirrors. Worthy Farm and most of the surrounding farms whose fields are used for the festival are dairy farms and they just can't take any chances with broken glass.

They do take them off you at the entrance to the campervan fields but the give you the choice of decanting them into plastic or they keep them & you either collect them on the way out or go back across the weekend & decant them when you have plastic empty bottles. thats if they find them of course..............................

Thats just not the Glastonbury way though is it.
The reason for no glass is a very valid one and I think the Eavis' deserve a bit more respect for there farm.
Some rules are made to be broken but this isn't one of them.

They take them from you when they search your van on the way in, they took my bread knife one year, they give you a receipt and you can collect it when you leave.

Wo! steady people! All glass is left in my bus & not taken into the site we take it all home with us. Its just that I`m
a lazy bugger & the extra walking would piss me off somewhat.

When people say mirrors in campervans/caravans, what happens if it's a fixed part of the van (i.e. my caravan bathroom wall is a mirror and the cupboard in the bedroom part has a mirrored cupboard door) Do they unscrew them (if that's possible!). Or do you just mean small portable mirrors and I'm just being paranoid?

Dont worry about fixtures in a van. They are talking about portable stuff that COULD be taken on site.

Not just onsite the rule includes the campervan field and car parks as it is all part of the farms.

Mind you after 5 days of partying you might not want a mirror.

Hahaha, I'm not that fussed about what I look like to be honest, the mirrors are just "there" and I think it would probably damage the van trying to get them off. Could possibly take the door off the cupboard one, lol! I should imagine most campervans and caravans have fixed mirrors somewhere.
I am compiling my non-glass packing list very carefully and usually avoid looking in mirrors if I can anyway, lol!

I have to say the knives thing I really don't understand. I mean how are you supposed to live & cook in your van for 5 days without one? Do they really think we're all raving psychopaths? No other festival I attend ever imposes such a draconian rule. We'll still be taking our kitchen knives but hiding them up well.

You can stab someone just as easily with a tent peg as you can with a bread knife, suo it does seem rather pointless.

Exactly! But rather more to the point - you can't slice a tomato with a tent peg.

Haha, that made me laugh tort.
I definitely agree with the no glass rule, and I'm pleased it's in place. Makes it safer (don't want to stumble on some broken glass etc) and it means no cows get damaged
Just put everything in plastic bottles, it's easy

Decanting my booze into plastic bottles (invest in a good funnel for this) and labelling them all has become an essential part of the build up now! And just a couple of months ago I found a couple of bottles I'd brought back and forgotten about.
"Guida's lovely vodka"
"Fin's lovely whisky"
etc

Your a genius, we spent 30 minutes transferring all of of booze to numerous plastic containers on the way down last year and now there are a few leftovers that we have no idea what they are! wish i had thought of labels - one step further on this year

Labels, or just a big fat marker pen. Seriously though, the decanting is all part of the fun for me now. I spend months in advance collecting empty plastic bottles but then somehow end up buying loads of water from Tescos anyway and throwing it away. Which then seemed mad whenever I was thirsty and had to queue up at the taps to get drinking water when I was there! I water my plants with the thrown away water which seems slightly less bad than throwing it down the drain but only just!

The Robinson's Double Concentrate squash you can buy has a kind of stopper at the top that only allows a certain measured amount out when pouring. It could be used as a nice travel optics like!
Though you would have to drink alot of squash in the next few weeks as the bottle it massive!
