Default First in campervan field?!
So this year is my second time at Glasto. Though I had the best time ever last year, we ended up being bloody miles away from the site in our campervan due to being stuck in traffic for 14 hours on the way. Think we arrived in the early hours of Thursday morning and were in the furthest field away from E gate bar one. It took about 30/40 minutes to walk down in the morning and AT LEAST 1 hour to stagger back!

So I want to be really close this year, preferably in the closest field this time. My plan is to drive down on Tuesday, rock up at some point on Tuesday night and hopefully queue through the night to get in at 8am when they open the gates.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone done anything similar in previous years? Thanks

Have to say that last year although we were very early getting there ie within an hour of the fields opening, there didn't seem to be any logic / choice of which campervan field we ended up in. Although not as bad as your experience, it was still a 20 min walk through another 3 fields to get on site. Logic would suggest they would fill up those fields closest to site first and work outwards, but this did not seem to happen.
Did you know that the campervan fields will be open on Tuesday this year ? So although you wont be able to get on site until Wed morn, you will be able to park up early.

No I did not know that, thank you sooooo much! That changes everything! I assumed I wouldn't be able to get into the field at all until 8am on Wednesday.

So do you have any idea of how it is organised? Unfortunately I was hammered by the time we arrived last year so can't remember anything!
You'd think it'd be first there, closest in.

I suppose even getting as close as you were would be a huge improvement but I've set my heart on being super close. The only issue i had last year was that you had to take whatever you wanted for the whole day and night once you left in the morning because it was too big a ball ache to trek back for a jumper or more booze or whatever. So I ended up getting a really sore back from lugging stuff around all day then being too cold on an evening... one of the reasons for going in a van (apart from comfort) is being able to have stuff with you, including booze and food which is much harder when you're in the stupid far away field!

You're welcome. One other option to think about is putting up a small tent on site and leaving stuff in there till to you need it, or of course there are lockups available. Our van was close enough last year to mean we could nip back every now and then if we needed to.

A couple of years back we got on site just after 9am on the Wednesday, so were one of the early birds in the campervan field. We managaed to be about a field away from the entrance.

We ended up using the security lock-ups - take a couple of bags, put a jumper, waterproogs etc in, and also whack a load of beer in as well. Just collect it from the lock-up as evening approaches - saves the long journey back!

Planning on heading down Tuesday night - can't get away from here before 11pm, so should be arriving in the early hours Wednesday - hoping it won't be too full by then!

Ooooh I didn't realise there were lock ups on site. That's definitely an option if we don't end up as close as I'd hoped. Are they much of a hassle to use?

I'd really like to be travelling light as I walk around this year but equally want to have my own booze and appropriate clothing and footwear! Mind you, I did make it hard for myself last year by insisting on having Pimms with lemonade, fruit and ice! And carrying a camping chair! Think I'm going to simplify this year. Have to say though, it was soooo worth it when I finally sat down to enjoy some music in my comfy chair with my lovely Pimms and a big fat one!

I just bought a great camping mat from Dunelm Mills for only £4. It's really light, pink and fluffy on one side, waterproof on the other and is absolutely massive. Total bargain!

we usually take our "garden trolley" thingy stuff the chairs in drink snacks jackets etc and leave the whole trolley in the lock up during the day wehn not needed... and at night and just collect again next morning. means your only carrying what your wearing to get back to bed!

That blanket got lost. I've had to buy a new one. It's NOT pink. I don't know why I'm so obsessed with pink at the moment, I'm not even that girly really. Strange...
