Festival trolley
Hey everyone, I'm a glasto virgin and RIDICULOUSLY excited! Going with a group of friends who have been before, but after some advice. Did the booze shop today, got 15 litres to carry (including mixers!) and clearly that isn't all going on my back. My friends are talking about getting granny style shopping trollies, but pretty sure these won't hold out! So looking at something a bit more sturdy, and after reading a lot of mixed reviews wondered what people would recommend!
Thanks in advance!

We're taking these:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...6_828586_n.jpg
There's 3 of us, so that's the plan.
We're going to take the tent out of it's bag and split it between us in our rucksacks. Then we're gonna put our food and drink in the old lady trollies.
They might not make it, but I can assure you that you do NOT want it all on your back. It's a killer.
We stupidly took a suitcase on wheels last year, and the handle broke
These have sturdier wheels and handles, plus only cost £13 each so doesn't matter if they get wrecked

Just worried about something like that giving up on me half way to where we're camping and being left with no way of carrying it!

If the wheels break, I'll just drag it along the floor. Like I said, it was dirt cheap so I really don't mind if it gets trashed

dont take anything that could remotely be considered as light weight unless you intend to put very very light stuff in it, pillows, tissues etc they just dont last. Every year there are wheels and broken trolleys all over the place - something sturdy is a must!

Whatever you take unless its a real wheelbarrow or summit like these bad boys or there more than likely gonna break! It really aint that bad having it all on your back, I had tent, sleeping bag, cloths, beers (about 40), rum, mixers and a bit of food on mine last year, now it was a hard squeeze getting it all in but its the easiest way to do it!! Now this is coming from a not to unhealthy 17 year old so it mite be a bit different for you older lot

We took old lady trolleys last year. They did just fine, no wheels fell off and they were rammed with the heavy stuff. They made the hill of death too! Mind you- last year being very dry helped, The wheels probably wouldn't have coped with the thick mud!

Fingers crossed for no mud then
As long as what's inside makes it, the outside can get as dirty, ripped, broken etc as it wants. Just as long as it holds it all until we get to where we're pitching our tent xD

That £13 one i was on about is just like the red trolley on the right.. Worth looking into. AND same price as a grannie trolley.

Too much choice! Going on the coach makes it doubly difficult in terms of what we can actually get on there! I should probably just chill out and stop worrying about it quite so much!

You can't beat a fishing trolley. They're designed for carrying large loads across rough terrain and are foldable so they can fit in a car boot or coach luggage area easily.

Thanks for all the suggestions, feeling slightly less terrified about struggling to carry gallons of booze now!

The other answer is to do 2 trips, it's what we intend to do this year. Beer and tent in 1st trip then maybe thur or fri back for more.

If you're travelling with someone, find a spot to sit with your heavy stuff then send them ahead to pitch the tent. They can call you or come back for you when your home is all set up. Saves you that great wandering about to 3 fields before you settle just 100 yards from where you came in!

The only problem with is that they aren't particularly easy to pull uphill. This type with the central handle are much easier to manouvre single handed.

Thats what we did with our boy last year. Left him just as we got in the fence, found our camping spot. Breeze and myself stayed and set up tent while whatme and responsible adult went back for the boy.

This is a great thread. I am a Glastonbury virgin, but have been to plenty of other festivals. I normally attach everything to my bag. But, from what I have read, the walk is long! I'm travelling down on the Tuesday late evening/early morning, and sleeping in the car until we can pitch the tent!
But, there is only 2 of us, and I do not fancy several treks to the car park and back - is this feasible?

I'll give you 8 out of 10 for that idea, but to fully use the people power, drop everything heavy or for later trips at the first property lock-up you encounter - there is one within 50-100yards of each pedestrian entrance. Then go look for somewhere to pitch your tent, with only the easy to carry stuff and then no one is left on their own wondering if the others are having fun without them!
Unless you know exactly where you want to camp, having the freedom of only being weighed down by your tent can mean you can cover a lot more ground and you won't mind backtracking a bit now & then.

Might give that a shot - but I very much like getting the tent up and then, cracking open the booze and relaxing in a field! Followed by exploring!

This is what I did last year, I came in on foot so dumped my rucksack at the lock up near gate A, wandered off and found a good place to pitch, then went back for the rest of my stuff. Worked a dream, it meant I didn't have to wander around finding a good spot with all my gear weighing me down.

Interesting method of transportation within the wheelie bin. I might just do 2 trip with my stuff. Take the tent first and then find a spot, and return for the stuff? I do not know the site at all! So I'm not sure which direction I'll be heading in. I know where I want to camp though! And, I know how to get to Glastonbury! Almost there!
