Default Favorite and Least Favorite Stages???
Right again an argument has come along with a few mates at collage today and has continued through different means tonight (mainly as a reason not to revise ) so i thought I would share our lil quarrel with you loverly people on here!!

So ... what is your favorite and least favorite stage at glasto, all things considered???

Personally there is one obvious one and one perhaps less. The obvious one is of course the pyramid stage! With camping in the field above being able to sit outside after rolling out of bed in the morning and watching the performances I would never have thought I wanted to see Having the ability to get right up close if the time and performance is right adds to it and some of the best memories I have taken from my 4 festivals (Jay Z, crowd surfing at the verve, front row all sunday in '07 to see the who etc) have all come from here I have also made some quality friends here whilst waiting for acts that I have still kept in touch with, It seems to be the place where i meet some of the nicest and most random of people The flags, love em or hate em, make it a sight to behold during headliners at night and the noise the crowd can generate (arctic monkeys - I bet that you look good on the dancefloor in '07 springs to mind) is just mind blowing!! And of course it is the symbol of glastonbury and the first thing I saw when coming over the hill from the car park on my first time!

The less obvious one is the Pussy Parlour in dance village. At the young age of 14 seeing the sign outside this and the que to go in, my minds boggled at what may be inside a tent with a rude name When I finally managed to pluck up the courage a few days later to brave the que with a few mates to get in we were a little surprised to find a dance floor with a few tables around the side I ventured onto the dance floor where a random girl a few years older than me came up to me, hugged me and gave me a can of cider At that moment i fell in love with the Pussy Parlour, no one could really understand my need to go back until last year we spent 6 or 7 very sweaty hours in there on the thursday. We grabbed a table and had various amounts of people come and sit with us before we got up to have a big skank at soe very heavy tunes Now i see that Iration Steppas (the act I most want to see bar Paul Simon) are playing there very late on saturday night C A N N O T W A I T !!!!!!!

Now my least favorite stage is without a doubt the John Peel Tent, i've given up for the last 2 years trying to see anything in here ... I could go on bout how much I dislike this tent for hours so i'll keep this bit brief. Its impossible to get a good view of anyone good unless staying there for along time before, the lack of screens (as I last remember) again makes it hard to see anything, getting in to its field via dance village is (as I last remember) only through a single bridge which gets crammed very quickly, they all ways seem to timetable anything half decent who i might want to see clash with others that fall into the same category (cage the elephant, joy formidable to name 2 from this year), Its friking ugly (I aint no art student but blue and yellow REALLY don't go), they go and put the streets on there when they are dispanding after this festival stint so I will without a doubt go and try and see but fail to get in due to other reasons I have mentioned ( but that aint really the stages fault but bad planning, oh well ) etc

So yeah what are your opinions on the positives and negatives of the stages???

Favourite stage is the Park : Can see stage wherever you are and sound is brilliant up there. Also it is away from all the other stages so there is no noise polllution.
Worst stage is The Other Stage : Main reason SOUND the only place you can actually hear the stage properly is to get in front of the sound desk or as close to the front as you can anywhere else then you get pollution from the Glade or the Dance Village.

Favourites for me are West Holts & Avalon and I'll often spend my days just flitting between the 2 with the odd diversion into the Cabaret, Theatre, Circus Fields & the Greenfields. If the whole festival was just contained within those areas I'd be happy as Larry.

Least favourite is probably John Peel. Never much on in there that particularly floats my boat, always overcrowded and a bloody long walk from the places I do enjoy being.

I agree with the comments about the John Peel tent, its a bloody nightmare to get to through either the dance village (which is ALWAYS manic) or via the Pyramid field (obviously always manic) and that MASSIVE road with market stalls and everything else on it.

However - if the act playing is right, its TOTALLY worth it, I saw Mumford & Sons there last year and the atmosphere inside that tent was bloody incredible, absolutely 100% the highlight of my festival last year - and probably the best live performance ive seen/experienced.

Thats not my fave though, my fave has to be the Small World stage, which is the solar powered one in the Green Futures Field. Tiny little place, full of people with dreadlocks, and cups of tea in a real mug for £1! I've seen some great unknown bands here The Roots Union are probably the best ones I've seen (who have sadly disbanded now) saw them in 09 and absolutely HAD to see them again last year... they didn't dissapoint! Plus the fact that the floor is covered in blankets and they ask you to take your shoes off, its a really nice atmosphere, somewhere to completely chill out, and discover some brilliant brilliant new music - definitely check it out if you've not been there before! their website - Here

Least favourite? There probably isn't one to be honest... The places I spend the least amount of time at are probably in the dance village though, not because they are bad - I'm just not a massive fan of dance music, and would rather have a wander round meeting new people and soaking up the amazingness of the more random bits of Glastonbury, than listening to DJ's doing stuff I can hear in most clubs...

Stage/Area I've yet to find and only recently heard about - Strummerville, MUST check that out this year - Campfire, people, and acoustic music - has got my name written all over it

I agree. I would have been happy to come home after Mumford and Sons.

If the Small World Stage is the same one I'm thinking of, I had an amazing time there last year. Managed to meet up with some friends and had a lovely cup of tea and cake. It was lovely to be able to just lounge around and listen to some really fantastic live music. The atmosphere was lovely, really relaxed which was just what I needed as I was feeling a bit strung out and tired that day. Can't think why... I wish I had the first clue of who I heard play that day because they were brilliant and just the kind of music I'd like to have more of but wouldn't know where to start. I was there last year on Sunday afternoon so if anyone can help me out on that score I'd be eternally grateful.

I REALLY wanted to see Mumford and Sons last year and schlepped over from Pyramid to see them which was a right mission because I went the stupid long way round. And then I got there and realised I wouldn't even be able to get NEAR the bloody place, never mind IN the tent. So I had a bit of a sit down, ate a pie (which made me need the toilet which wasn't nice due to being in the Dance Village at the time!) and went back to Pyramid. Very disappointed but am looking forward to seeing them this year at a bigger stage.

Btw, does anyone know if Rolf is playing Pyramid again this year? That was the absolute highlight of Glasto for me last year! That man is a fricking legend!

This page is still from last year, http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/lineuptimes/ and has all the stages and performance times (including Small World Stage) so check that out and you might be able to find your mystery band but pretty much all of the music there is amazing.

If it was Sunday afternoon/evening then Philip Henry was on at 18:15 who is INCREDIBLE I've never seen someone do the sort of stuff he can do; beatboxing, singing and playing harmonica all at the same time! But I'm pretty sure you wouldn't forget who he was if you had seen him...

I was loving John Peel last year!! Maybe as we camped right by the pylon outside it and could hear the bands while sitting by the tent!! Had a fab Sunday- wasn't interested in Stevie as I adore Ash and their set was a brilliant end to a fantastic weekend! Singing New York New york in a massive circle to finish it off! No least favourite either! Can't wait- planning time is here!!

You missed a treat there, Stevie was absolutely off the chart! I suppose that's one of the few things to dislike about Glasto, when you have to choose between two or more things you'd really like to see. Like this year it's U2 or Primal Scream...

The band I saw was Heal the Last Stand and they were amazing. I'm going to BUY, that's right buy, not download illegally, their album tonight. That's how much I enjoyed their set! Thanks for helping me find them. Now I need to buy a bigger ipod!

Don't really have a least favourite. Ones i enjoyed last year were the Avalon and the Glade. Also stumbled across The Beat (and relived my youth) playing a set on the sunday afternoon (cant remember where-very small stage) and had one of the best 1/2 hours of the festival.

I probably should have seen Stevie, but when you REALLY love a band it's an easy choice! Now I can leave Primal Scream as I will be seeing them at Camp Bestival!!

Most = Glade, West Holts and The Park
Least = John Peel (very far from where we were camped!)
