Excited and on verge of nervous hysteria
Hi Everyone..... Yeah another first timer here. I am in need of advice from all you Glasto veterans. I will be driving through the night from Liverpool and will be there with white knuckles for gates opening on Wednesday morning! Can anyone advise me where to head for when those gates open? I'm hoping we (Me and my boyfriend) can get somewhere relatively quiet as I will need at least some kip during the festival.
I'll only be 100% not hysterical when I've got our tent up, bags in and downing my first well earned pint.
Any advice please as we haven't got a clue???
Thanks
Jan

Check out the fine guide / map on the Glasto website here http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.u...ineguide10.pdf. For some reason this morning the map is upside down. However once you overcome that problem, maybe look to camp away from the Dance tents, away from the main walkways perhaps near the back of one of the fields. Wherever you are of course you're going to find your neighbours partying so be prepared to go with the flow and catch up on sleep whenever you can.
As you'll be there early on Wed, take the chance to have a good wander round the site before it gets busy and take in some landmarks (main stages - pyramid, other and West Holts [formerly Jazz/World] to try and get your bearings - this will be valuable later on, but also give you an idea where all the hidden little stages etc are to be found.
Have a fab time . Any more questions ask away....

We camped in Holts last year because it was so central (the two previous years we were stewarding so were up at the north end). This was, to be honest, a bit of a mistake: it was incredibly noisy - almost every stall seemed to have its own late-running sound system. We were also just a bit too close to the toilets....
This year we're planning on being slightly closer to Shangri-La and so forth - somewhere along the Old Railway Track:
Not in the Dragon Field, which is maybe too out of the way and too steep (I was there in 2000, and apart from the steepness there was a certain amount of excitement caused by a large van being parked over the fence and a steady stream of rather dodgy types with sack trucks of bottles and cans)
Not Pennards, which seems to have a serious reputation for Party Central-ness (and a certain degree of moisture).
This leaves the Park Home Ground....
Now all I need to do is check that pedestrians coming from the West can get in through the White Route and Gate D.

WTF! This is Glastonbury Festival you are going to
No seriously, you are arriving early enough to pick a decent spot, i have always found that the rear of the fields (nearer to the perimeter fence) afford you a certain amount of P&Q as people don't need access past your pitch, but as already said people party every where, any time!
Eyemask and ear plugs if you really must sleep.
Try and stay away from walk ways and always uphill from any toilets
Enjoy

Dump him for a week ! I'm only saying this cos you said it wasn't serious.
Loads of people go on their own. All that money and preparation to go to waste ? For a start you can meet all of us on Thursday and there will be people to hang out with all weekend. You'll make loads of new friends and still have the best time ever. Don't feel guilty at the thought of enjoying yourself - there's always next year for your fella and you'll be a Glasto veteran showing him all the cool things and places you find this year.
Just my opinion

Unless he's dying, then you should go. And actually, if he's dying, he should go too! Seriously, you'll be so gutted if you don't go. Being on your own won't be a problem so the only issue is your boyfriend. Has he asked you not to go because that definitely IS a deal breaker in my book!

The quietest sites are `Wicket Ground, Lime Kiln & Hitchen Hill`
I have camped there in the past and am doing so again with wifey and friends. Its a bit out of the way "UP" the hill in the north west of the site. The only problem is staggering back to the tent late in the night/morning, but at least you can get some sleep.

Wicket has been designated Family Camping this year so there may be some pressure there. Nice area though and ideal for John Peel.
