East Parking
Hi All,
We are travelling down from Hertfordshire in two cars (8 of us) and I guess by looking at the map we are going to be heading towards the festival along the A37 road. If we are coming in from this side towards the festival will the festival staff point us towards the East Car parks automatically or is it complete random where you end up parking???
Also, in an ideal world we would like to park in E24 as we are planning on camping in the top right hand corner of Big Ground camp area.
How easy is it to get into the E24 car park? Does it fill up quick?
We are leaving Hertfordshire about 7am on Thursday so hoping to arrive about 10am - 11am depending on traffic?
Any help would be great,
Thanks
Jack

I haven't been since 2000/2002 so it may be a little different now, however i would stay on the A37 east until you get down level then head west on the smaller roads. If you join the A361 at Shepton mallet you might get pushed round to the west CP if you are unlucky. When I came that way in 2000 I ended up in the west car park
I am coming from Hampshire this time but I am going to stay south until I can get round and approach from the west for the west CP.
What ever happens don't get to vexed, compared to all the stomping you are going to do a little extra to get in soon gets forgotten when the first beer goes down and the Dead Weather are playing!!!
Enjoy.

If you are coming on the A361 from Shepton, the signs will be encouraging you to go south on the A37 to East. I just ignore them and continue on the Red route, on the A361 to go through Pilton, passing all the cars coming in the opposite direction. This is Wednesday morning for two years in a row, before the traffic builds up. I am not sure what happens once the traffic gets tricky. I am in a campervan now trying to get to campervan West so will perhaps have an even more complicated route.

Hi Jack,
Yeah stay on the A37 south to Pylle and follow the signs/stewards for "blue route for cars" and you should end up in east parking (thats my plan anyway), however E24 is for caravans and campervans only, the CPs are E1 to E12!!
As said above a little stroll to get in is soon forgotten

Hi everyone - thanks for all the great advice on this site I'm a first timer and can't wait until next week!! Listening to all the chatter here has doubled my anticipation!
On the subject of getting into the festival.. I'm heading in Wed morning at 9 (east campervan field / blue route (?) do you recommend any tactics for getting in quickly into a nice spot? I'm not stressed or anything but I thought i'd tap into your communal wisdom!
See you all next week !!!!!

Yeah. E24 is technically a campervan field but in reality is part of the hill of death so only a few brave souls are able to park their vans there, perched on the edge of the abyss. You will not get any choice over which field you park you car in. If you go to East you will be guided to the first available parking place. Big Ground is quite popular and will fill up quite quickly. I am not sure if you will find any space there by Thursday. It is a nice spot. We camped there in 2007, having parked in West. In the end it was guy rope over guy rope but I expect that will be the situation in most areas. It is worth asking the stewards where the most space is. Some are a complete wast of space but others have their finger on the pulse. It is not obvious from the map but the main drag from Gate A at the top of West takes you past Big Ground.

Jimincardiff. Quite frankly, if you manage to get in at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday you will have your pick of the site. With Tuesday becoming the new Wednesday, no-one really knows what the queues and car parks are going to be like on Wednesday morning. I am intending to leave Wiltshire in darkness and get there at dawn on Wednesday to get into campervan West. It may be dog eat dog or we may all be laughing about it in the bar of the Queen's Head by 10:00 a.m.

Thanks for the tip... I have stayed at Big Ground twice...The first time, about 5 years ago now, we arrived on a Saturday and just about found some space... The next time was 4 years ago and we arrived Friday morning and again was lucky... So I am hoping on Thursday morning when we arrive we should find space...
Do you think lots of people will be camping and arriving on the Wednesday? I always thought the Thursday is the busy day?
Thanks
Jack

On the Fine Guide, the campervan fields are green and you will have to walk through them to get to Gate C, unless you have a low E number, in which case Gate B might be better for you. Take a little time to try and work out where your car is before making the treck. If you have lots of stuff, it may be worth your while taking the basics to get your tent up and coming back for the rest when you have chilled out a bit. You can get completely exhausted if you try to wander round the site looking for a suitable stop with half a ton of stuff on your back.
It looks like Tuesday is becoming the new Wednesday. I just don't know what proportion of people are trying to get there on Tuesday and camp in the car park. There was a survey about this but I have not seen the results. I have been going on Wednesday for the last couple of year, since it started. By Thursday the place is really filling up.

Hi,
Yer I think your right, gate B looks like our best option. This is closer to the camp area we want to pitch up in... And your right, we are just planning on taking our tents and a few beers when we arrive.. Then go back for the rest later once all tents are up.
Does anyone know the best route to make it to E1 car park then, this looks to be the best car park area for us?
Thanks
Jack

The only choice you have is East or West, you then have to park where the stewards tell you to.

HA HA,
Well unfortunately a few beers each while setting up the tent wont last... We are buying beers to last for the whole 4 days.... lol.... So that’s about 16 crates of beer/ cider....
I think the plan is to just stick to the blue route then....
Thanks for everyone who has replied.... Hope you all have an awesome time, I am 100% certain you, its Glastonbury after all...
