Cars and campervans
Does anyone know if it's ok to take a car into the campervan field? I had this idea in my head that you're allowed one car per campervan (ticket) and do seem to remember our neighbours in previous years having some cars there. But I can't find anything on the official site about it, though this may be because I'm being a bit thick today.

That actually makes more sense
I do have a spare campervan ticket, I wonder if they'd let us use that instead of a van? Probably not! Basically there's more people travelling down and sleeping in tents next to the vans than are legally allowed to travel in the vans. I've checked and it does say you can pitch tents behind the vans so I'm sure that bit will be fine. It's just the logistics of getting there now. I suppose the extra people could drive down separately and walk over to the van but obviously it'd be more fun and less hassle if we could all travel down together.
Argh, I would sell my mother, father and grandparents right now for a loan of a campervan for the week!

i hope i'm wrong but i really cant recall people doing what you want to do. If your in the east site i have seen cars that go that way from the main road off the blue route as well and park a little bit further back than the campervan fields (or probably more likely just to teeh side of them), you could all drive together to there and then the car folks could get into the van after parking up, as you would be off the roads then? May solve your problem?
I haven't seen anything with glasto about the numbers of people allowed in one campervan, there are limits with other festivals but i dont think there is here? I'm sure you'll get more comments later.
i think you'd have to have parents made of gold to get enough money to get a van for this week good luck with that one The seatbelt law changed a couple of years ago i think, thats why i changed my van for one with 6 seatbelts. (have to admit we took the whole family out once for a meal, about 15 people, just pulled all of the blinds down and drove steadily bad boy - but saved a fortune on taxi's!

I cant remember seeing any cars in the campervan fields either Guida. Gonna be a right hassle for u if your car driver has to use the car park and trek thru site, which of course they wouldn't be able to do until the Wednesday. Not sure how far a walk it would be outside from one to the other.
Be nice to get a definitive answer to this question before you go. Anyone else know how to find out ?

I don't see why there would be a problem with walking from a car park to the campervan field. Yes Mart it obviously would be a huge hassle but I can't see another option at this point other than having too many people in the van. Or you suggestion above is a good one Bell Boy, thanks. We're not going til Wednesday now anyway so that's ok. I figure as long as most of the gear is in the vans, then the car people will just have to walk rather than carry shit. Though I am starting to think that the vans are going to be really overloaded anyway so having a car for more stuff would be good. Though that obviously then negates the whole not having to carry shit scenario which I want to avoid.
Any suggestions from anyone much appreciated!

When we went with a friend and his trailer tent we had to park in the carpark and walk to the campervan. He was allowed his car obviously cos he needed to tow the tent.

How many tents are you planning on pitching 'behind' the campervan? as you are supposed to be restricted to a 6m length pitch per van. There may be a bit of leniancy depending on the stewards who direct you to your pitch in regard to size and if you can get away with pitching any tents beside it.
I don't see anyway you gonna be able to get a car in, even just to unload. Also may be a bit tricky 'cross-loading' stuff/people from the car to the 'van once within the festival roads as at some point, quite a distance from entrence to car parks and campervan fields, you will be directed in different directions.

Ok so potential change of plan... Bit radical and probably won't work but I'm seriously considering buying a cheap old caravan on ebay then selling it again afterwards. There are loads and loads of dirt cheap ones on there which you probably wouldn't want to buy normally but to buy for a week would be fine. Given how much we would happily have spent on hiring a camper van, this seems like quite a good idea and solves all our problems in one go.
So any caravanning experts out there, I would be very grateful for any advice, about buying, towing, driving etc. I got my licence after 1997, I think that's relevant. I've tried to figure out if I'd need a special licence but think it has to do with the weight of what you're towing so can't say yet. Also, how hard is it? I found driving a huge campervan to be pretty easy (if tiring) but I imagine that towing a caravan is much harder. I'm not an especially girly driver but openly admit that my spacial awareness isn't the best!
Roo, there are two vans going so probably one tent next to or behind each van. The stewards have been lenient in previous years to the point of taking literally no notice of what we were doing. I think as long as the fire lanes are kept clear, no-one really gives a rat's ass. And as I say I have got a spare ticket so can legitimately take up more space than if I didn't I think. I agree that getting the car in the field wont' work unless it's towing a caravan. And yes, cross loading might be tricky, good point.
It's all still to play for! Crikey, all this anxiety and worry about how it's going to work out has made me forget to be excited! I'm going to go buy some fancy dress shit tomorrow to get me in the mood!

Unsuitable vehicles, including unconverted vans, with tickets for the camper van fields, will not be allowed entry and will be sent to one of the festival car parks - and, as it is contrary to our licence, security patrols will not permit sleeping in any vehicles in these car parks.

I'm doing pretty much the same, Mate has a caravan and there is going to be myself and possibly one other tent next to it. Hopefully I'm mistaken but shouldn't be too much hassle to park in car park and walk to whatever camper field they will be in. My plan if there was a problem with more than 1 tent next to the caravan is just to ask some person nearby if it is ok to pitch my tent next to them.

The saga continues. After a plaintive appeal on Facebook, I may possibly have the loan of a wee van thing. Weirdly from an ex but at this stage I'm not fussy. Watch this space!...
Thanks for all the replies guys. I really hope the van thing comes through because on reflection I really don't want to drive a caravan at all, never mind on a 500 or so mile round trip! Even if I did have the right licence, which I don't. I've only just got the hang of parallel parking ffs! (had my licence about 11 years now... )

We are having Caravans delivered to site.
Now last year we did the same, so we just drove up with our pass and drove to the caravan (Well it was a Silver Double Decker bus) so we had 2 pitches for it and 1 caravan pitch so 3 cars parked up alongside the Bus. (the caravan was 200m away)
So you could turn up with your spare caravan pass and say you are having one delivered to site and need to get to it! saying which field you are in then just meeting up with everyone else and parking up.
It is very chilled out in the campervan fields in my experience (well the 2 times before!).
Plus loads of room for tents if your smart about it!
Cant Wait!!!

Job's a good 'un. Amazingly someone is offering me a loan of their wee van for the week so crisis averted! Thanks for all the replies though, it's been an education.
I got a reply back from Glastonbury. As I thought, you can't take a car in with a van but you can with a caravan. Obviously or how would you tow it in? They also confirmed that you can pitch a tent behind your van and basically seem to be saying that you can do whatever you want (within fire regs) as long as you don't exceed the size of your pitch, 6m x 7m. But yes, had I wanted to arrive separately in a car, I would indeed have had to park in one of the car parks and schlepped over. But now it's not an issue, I can start getting seriously giddy! Is anyone else having problems sleeping?!

Great that you got it sorted , there are still some lovely, helpful people in this world which is good to hear.
Strangely I am sleeping fine, despite the fact that my tickets haven't even left See yet, next week will be the problem for me, lol, especially if they still haven't arrived yet.
