Car parks opening on Tuesday night
http://tinyurl.com/y975edv
Opinions?
Could be one hell of a party atmosphere there, especially with the stalls!
Nobody's gonna be sleeping and there's gonna be a hell of alot of booze around.

I'd just posted that on the main site myself.
It's a great idea, I'm looking forward to it.
The gates will be mobbed at 8am though.

Apologies if I jumped the gun a little.
I guess people will work out what their opinion of the lesser of two evils is; being in a car, or being in the queues.
Then there's the deciding factor of the weather...

No worries.
It's going to turn into two (if East & West are open) big parties regardless of the weather.
Erecting the tent in the morning will be fun though.

I think its a great idea!!!! Massive CARPARK RAVE!!!!! hee hee :-)
Mucho Fun to be had by all i think, but do agree with the rush to get in at 8am - that will be crazy - drunkard/hungover people trying to pitch tents is not the best idea oh well.

If I eventually get a ticket, I'm gonna have to buy a buttload of extra booze as we're gonna have an extra night of carnage!
It's basically gonna be a Glastonbury 2010 launch party.
Good move Team Eavis.

Boooo!!
In the coming weeks after Glasto has ended when all you can think about is how much you still want to be there you'll be wishing you'd rocked the Carpark Rave of 2010..!!

The simple answer to it all is to put no established bands on stages on the Thursday. It was crazy last time and I feel like I lost out on the chilled Wednesday by being in the massive traffic jam and then lost out on the wander-round Thursday by the fact that everybody was already there.
No bands until Friday would mean those just attending for the music wouldn't bother turning up until Thursday. Those of us who realise Glasto is much more than the latest indie landfill band appearing on some stage or other then get to enjoy a chilled out couple of days before the stages come to life.
I think I'll buy a paraglider and float into the site like that guy who hovered over me on the Sunday this year!

I second that.
Putting Maximo Park on at 4pm on Thur this year was a mistake IMO. They should leave Wed & Thur for chilling out.

I wish they'd open the WHOLE site on Tuesday, that'd be amazing.
Though I must take issue with that article and Eavis's constant harping about being a poor farmer who can't afford to pay bands and doesn't like ripping people off. He's raised ticket prices to £195!

You can pay £100 for a single gig, so £195 is a bargain IMO.
If they doubled the price, I'd still go.

I think we'd all sell off body parts if it meant we could still go to Glasto. I happily got myself a ticket; you'd pay that much to go on holiday and Glasto is one big holiday! I just don't think he should be taking the stance of a penniless farmer with no interest in money, it's inconsistent with the constant price hikes.

With that being said, I'd shut up if he opened the site on Tuesday!

Thank you, finally someone agrees with what I was moaning to my mates about for weeks after we got back.
I love the 2 days of chillout that come with Glasto - hence the fact I drive 3 quarters of the distance on Tuesday night and set off to the campsite at 7am on the Wednesday.
That said, I'd have no issue with music on the Thursday if the site opened 9am Tuesday. In fact I'd welcome it - and probably pay a few quid extra!
Maybe theres a potential solution right there - have "music only" tickets (Friday to Sunday) and "full week" tickets. 7 days of camping, if you're willing to pay a bit more!

From what I've read, Michael Eavis takes a wage for the festival, a generous one admittedly, but he doesn't cream off any profits. The rest of the money goes to charity and to improve the festival, pay increasing costs for the things we need on site, entertainments and pussyfooting around the local council. He's not poor by any stretch of the imagination but price increases are inevitable, just a fact of life in general.

The main reason this year the Car Park tickets have gone up is because the surrounding farmers have put up their rental prices apparently some have taken the piss but he has his hands tied and has to rent the land. Also last year because of the slow sales the deposits they thought they would get on the first day sale e.g sell out were going to go into a high interest account and the interest was earmarked for the charities but this year Mr Eavis allegedly had to dip into more of the profits to give to them.
The improvements around the site don't cost nothing either this year with the higher amount of long drops and the big huge water/sewage tank was a pretty penny.
Also there is something called the credit crunch think everyone has felt it.
If the tickets were £250 this year I would still go. Its worth it

The way I see it, it's an investment by us if we pay more for a ticket.
We'll be the ones who see the improvements, not the bands or Team Eavis.
They don't poo where we poo or park where we park.
I still think the price is reasonable; as has been said previously, you'd spend more on a holiday and, let's be honest, you won't find many holidays that will equate to the experience of Glastonbury.
Would I still go if they doubled the ticket price?
You bet your bollocks to a barn-dance I would.
(Well, if I could get a ticket... )

There is also the congestion and environmental impact, which I think is the main reason they're touting for the price increase in parking, they would like more people off the roads and using public transport, car sharing etc.
And yeah, if I could afford it, it's worth the ticket price and more to me!
