Default Can you take speakers into the camping sites?
Ello everybody,

Just wondering whether or not you're allowed to take small battery powered stereo speakers into the camping site, of whether they'll take them off you at the gate?

Cheers. x

No, I'm afraid you can't. Apart from agreeing with the "Why bother?" question, you can't anyway. From the Fine Guide on the Glastonbury website:

"Please don’t bring your own sound system – the Festival has music pretty well covered. The campsites are patrolled for rogue systems, which will be confiscated."

Don't worry, there are one or two bands playing over the weekend, you won't be short of music!!

We took a couple of little iPod ones last year for the 'chilling at the tents time' and when some stewards came over to look for some lost kid commented on our good taste of music and let us keep em, it just depends what sorta steward you meet

Think it's quite easy to see the difference between little ipod speakers and a sound system speakers - unless you got a Bose running off batteries that is!

A good rule of thumb would be if the speakers fit inside a backpack you should be ok, if they big enough to not fit in a bag or need to be carried by handles they'd be sound system speakers.

Also, it would depend how used - if blasting it out on campsite at 4am, when it's possible some people might be getting a little sleep, then stewards may see it a little differently.

Can you honestly not work out why somebody might want to take mini-speakers to a camping site?

Thanks for the replies people. x

You really think?? So is this, like, a music festival or something like that?

Thanks for all the info everyone; I'm really struggling to remember why I'd ever want some tunes on while I was inevitably chilling in my tent.

Is it that absurb to think someone would like to hear music in the morning or when there getting changed or whenever they are at there tent , i find that the people who try to get Glastonbury tckts are generally music fans.

Think we were all thinking sound system speakers when we read the question - I know I was. My bad, as they say!

Back in the day there was this coach with an awning and speakers running the length of it blasting out reggae 24/7 (or "all night long" as we used to call it back then!) Very much the sound of Glastonbury to me, and much missed (although it was a bugger to sleep through). Having some speakers in your tent to chill out to? No, don't see that as a problem!

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part, and let me wish you a cheery and wondrous festival by way of apology! and indeed

Frankly I can't see the point. There's live music somewhere on site for 20 hours a day. I go back to my tent for a few hours sleep every morning and that's it. So the last thing I want is some bloke in the next tent playing something I don't want to listen to through a tinny pair of speakers. Besides are you going to carry these speakers around with you all day or leave them in the lock ups every time you go out for a wander because I would guess that they are wonderfully nickable to any tent thief.

The question comes up every year and frankly it just leaves me totally baffled. Why?

take a small radio, that's all you need, tune into Worthy FM for music and goss about what's going on around the site, then once you've got your boots on, go and find out what's going on for yourself.

Well frankly, your inability to understand why I want to do something, and my inability to understand why you care so much so as to concoct such a negative response, just leaves me totally baffled.

Absolutely sick of negative attitudes like this. They were very much appreciated, get over it.

And try turning your nose up at your own life for once.

Oh dear! Dummy well & truly spat! You call it negativity, I call it consideration for others. I'm sure you'll understand when you grow up. Pop along now. xx

You better not have been the person playing their personal music out loud in the Pylon Ground! Bloody annoying and completely pointless! No one wants to hear your music, they're at Glastonbury to see live music etc, not listen to music from someone elses crappy speakers while they're relaxing at the tent.
