we put a small tent up next to ours in 2009. We didnt get any grief about it but it was just a 2 man tent to fit our teenager in.

Not a problem. As there is a constant stream of vans coming in, when you park up, tell the next people in you are putting a small tent up and they can leave you enough room. Sorted.

I have an 8 berth awning that is longer than the van and I have had no problems except security asked to look inside as the thought it was the dance tent.

7 metre limit - Campervan length
Hi all, new poster here but long time glasto attender. First year looking at the camper van fields as normally camp.
I notice from the info on the official site that they say any vehicles above 7 metres need to purchase 2 pitches/campervan tickets.
We are looking at a 6 berth vehicle that is 7.3 m long, are they really strict on the 7m thing or would this .3 be allowed to slide?
Thanks in advance.

Dont think they're that strict. The rule is there to charge extra for the enormous ones. If anyone asks just tell them its 7 meters.

a couple of years ago we knew would be getting a bigger van, it was 6.97m long so i bought 2 tickets just in case but no one made any comments so i think you'd be ok with 7.3m - £200 for 30cm would be a bit steep!

Hi we have a trailer tent and were just wondering if there are many trailer tents in the campervan field as we dont know what to expect as its our first time, not sure if we should invest in a campervan instead. Any info or pics of campervan fields would be much appreciated.

As long as it doesn't have the vehicle length pasted on the side of it anywhere you should get away with it, doubt the stewards will have tape measures or even if they have them will be inclined to use one!

Will I be able to put up an awning? Can I sleep under the awning? Yes, manufacturers awnings are acceptable, but the Fire Service does not permit people to sleep under these awnings because of the risk of contiguous fire between vehicles.

read today that you can camp behind the van but not beside it in case of fires between vans

we went in a 6 berth camper last year 2010 and we only bought 1 camper pass..thats all you need the stewards just said do you have an awning and if so dont over do the space as for the next van to come alongside, also we out a 2 man tent next to ours just for the muddy clothes and wellie but luckily for us it was only the hottest un muddness glasto has ever seen,So we ended up putting our tight speedos and hats and shorts in there and went to the festival with fook all on ha ha roll on the Eastside massive campervan ravers and the hill is nowt!

Travel.
I have a van and plan on bringing it for the first year. We plan on arriving around 3 on the thursday. Any ideas how bad the traffic will be. I guess pretty bad then.
Also I am just converting my van. It will have bed, cooker and sink, is this ok? how much do they check it out?
I chose east campsite, what are the differences as i see people wanna swap?

Going mobile for the first time - welcome to the club
Over the last couple of years it seems that most people have arrived by Thursday morning! it seems almost full by then so you may be the only ones arriving you never know, i've done thursday night and early Thursday but never in the afternoon.
They do a full check of each van, there are some guidlines on the glastonbury festivals website but from what you say i think you have the things they say it must have, a proper bed, and i think it says cooking or washing facililities. there are all sorts of converted vehicles there and i think as long as its obvioulsy not a transit with a piece of foam on the floor then you should be ok. The west site is new and i've only ever used the east side, always been happy with it and the walk isnt too bad to the site and the pryamid stage, i'm sure you will have seen all of the other comments about east vs west, i would always go east just for the view when you arrive, the hill is a pain to get up but standing at the top and looking over the whole site makes up for that.

yeh, i'm afraid so, i have occasionally seen people who arrive later and drive to the nearer fields but usuallyyou end up being further away the later you arrive. when we arrived on Thursday night 2 years ago we were almostas far away as you could be, but it still wasnt a bad walk. go for the Wednesday night, it will be worth it and then the better half can have her lie in on Thursday!

haha, thats ok, its usually the obvious things we miss There's something special about the Wednesday night, the beer will taste especially nice when you have that wristband on and you can hear the bustle of the festival - cant wait!! Cheers

Vans and east site
this might be a silly question, but never taken a van before and was wondering what the crack is with water for cooking and wast water from dishes etc.
Only have a small van so not much in the way of room to store dirty water or fresh water.
I take t there are facilities for fresh daily water and disposal of dirty.
Any info would be great.... Might have to stock up on the collapsable water tanks if poor facilities!!!

yep, there's fresh water taps and dirty water / sewage disposal points in the fields, i dont think they're in every field but there's plenty around so you wont need to take too much with you - unless your as lazy as i am and take as much as you can to save the effort when your there!

Water pressure is always a problem so fill up at the taps when no one is around or you will spend hours queuing.
