burger vans ?
I had heard that the food at Glasto is amazing, anything you could possibly want. However I was talking to a bloke at the week end who said that there was nothing there but burger vans? Is this correct? And are all the foody stalls all in the same area or are they at random places all over?

Yes the food is amazing! Everything you could want and more, from vegen to far eastern promise and nearly everything inbetween.
The bloke you where talking to was either talking 80110x or winding you up. They are pretty much in the market areas but you are never far from soime sort of substainance.

And if you want burgers, some of the finest organic, locally produced, hand-made burgers you could ever taste are available ...
Rough rule of thumb is that the best food is furthest from the Pyramid, though the Tor Rugby Club mexican is one of my regular haunts. Another is the fish curry place near Jazz World though I usually leave that to Sunday just in case. I imagine Glasto would be a very uncomfortable place with a dose of the sh1ts.

Obviously he hasn't been to Glastonbury before because he's talking out of his arse. There are a few burger vans about, but anyone who uses them must be some kind of masochist when there is such a variety of quality food available.
As mentioned above, the food stalls near the Pyramid Stage tend to be crap, but a good pace to find decent food is West Holts/Jazz World.
Have a look at this thread for some examples http://forum.glastowatch.co.uk/food-t177.html?t=177

I think he's getting confused with some other (shit|) festival. Anyway looking at the other comments above I'm sure your fears have been alleviated !

Yeah, he's definitely talking out of his a-hole, the food's awesome. My only complaint was that it wasn't always easy to find meat as many (most?) of the stalls seem to be veggie and after a few days on the sauce, I need MEAT!!! But I found a great fajita type place on the way to see the Prodigy, so think that was the Other stage, and got them to put extra MEAT on which sorted me out!
Seriously though, the food's brilliant. And not even that expensive to say you're at a festival.

Definitely!
Burger-van man must have either a) mixed it up with another festival, b) be winding you up or c) never ventured from the Pyramid stage. Even near the Pyramid there's a few nice places - the Yeo Valley yogurt stall is close, and I have hazy memories of buying the best pie in the entire world from a stall called "Pie" near there (I was in a bit of a state and the big "Pie" sign was nice and easy to understand, unlike the concept of money and change which caused some confusion. This was before mushrooms were made illegal...).
The only negative thing about food at Glastonbury is that there's so much to choose from it can be hard to decide!

Booze !
ok, thanks for info, thats the food sorted! Now onto the booze! Is it mainly cider and beer tents ect...Or are there plenty of places you can buy spirits and wine ect....and if so do they cost a fortune? We were thinking of bringing our own Jacky D in plastic bottles but Id rather not carry the stuff round with us all day if its easy enough to buy...?

I would say mainly beer and cider. The hot weather last year meant the cider ran out on Sunday - I may have played a small part in this ! Anyway back to the question - I remember somewhere selling nice wine last year but it was quite expensive.
I do know that the Bourbon St Jazz/Blues place have said they are doing cocktails this year - may see you in there from time to time !
Cheers

I think this has been suggested elsewhere but buying a box of wine in advance is a good solution. And if you're camping, freeze it in advance. I didn't find it all that onerous to carry around really and I even had some little plastic wine glasses so everyone could have a nice sophisticated glass of wine!

I had proper Pimms last year, complete with mixers, fruit and ice. Slightly spoiled by being in a Tesco value water bottle but still. Kind of worth it but kind of not worth having back ache from carrying it around all day... Keep it simple I reckon is the way forward. I'm steering clear of beer and cider though just to minimise toilet trips! I have a typically pathetically small girly bladder.

Love this and will look for PIE this year. I like to eat a pie or pasty before I go to bed at Glastonbury which is a bit unhealthy but it stops you wondering whether you need a wee once you're tucked up in your sleeping bag. You don't - it works, try it and see.

Say again, eating pies makes you not need a wee at night? That better not be true because if it is, I'm about to get a whole lot fatter!

It is true, it is. It has to be a big pie though.

Right, stop talking about pies! You're making me hungry and I'm on a strict diet so I can look good in the Wonderwoman hotpants and vest top combo I'm planning on wearing (again!) this year!
Just kidding, about not talking about pies that is! Cate, does it have to be any particular kind of pie? I'm definitely going to have to go find this pie stall now!

I aren't running a pie stall but think I could be due for some commission.
I too am on a diet so no pies for me until Glastonbury but any kind of pie will work, though I only tried the vegetarian ones.

Are there any good non-alcoholic drinks stands there, like juice bars etc? I'm six months pregnant so won't be indulging in any alcoholic beverages this year, but drinking water or cola/lemo etc for 5 days is going to be rather dull.

The answer to pretty much any "Can I get _____ at Glastonbury?" is nearly always yes
As GlastoWatch said there are plenty of juice/smoothie/milkshake bars and the freshly made still lemonade stands are nice too.

Never thought of it like that, but yeah, you can get anything at Glastonbury - its just that I've never taken much notice of anything other than the beer tents when it comes to beverages!
I think the two fat babies in my tummy will be most pleased with daily smoothies and fresh juices.
I'll probabaly eat and drink healthier at Glastonbury than I do at home

Yup, I've got identical twins in there! Not sure if I'm brave or just plain stupid in attending glastonbury but I would agree that they are an excellent excuse to eat my way through the festival

My friend's pregnant too, though she'll only be about 14 weeks by then. Think she's a bit worried that we'll all get totally hammered all the time and she'll be bored and abandoned! Obviously we've tried to reassure her and I've said there's loads and loads of stuff she can do that doesn't involve booze or drugs. Maybe all the pregnant ladies could get together and complain about all us reprobates who'll be trolleyed all the time?!

Good idea! I'm going with four friends, one of who is also pregnant. So if you spot two fatties drinking non alcoholic Becks lager, that'll be us!
I've been advised on another thread by Stinkywitch to visit the kidz field upon arrival at the festival, cos thats where the National Childbirth Trust and midwife are located. So me and my mate are going to drop in there to let them know we're on site, tell them how far into pregnancy we are etc. Your mate might want to do the same.

I know they say that being pregnant can give you cravings for things you would never normally eat or drink, but my God, pregnancy is not an excuse for drinking non alcoholic Becks.
