Best Camping Ground?
Hi guys,
As a Glasto virgin I'm a bit confused where to camp. I read Tort's very helpful guide but am still non the wiser which to aim for!
I'll be arriving early Wednesday morning from Glastonbury itself on the A361...driving so assume I'll be in the Western car park, entering via entrance A or D. Does that seem right?
I don't want to walk miles every day but don't want to be anywhere massively noisey where we can't sleep. Oh and not too flat and prone to flooding if it's a wash out!
Any reccomendations please?

Going on what you write just park and enter via Gate D and as you walk though ' turn left ' and you are in Bushy Ground - keep to the top of the hill and you cant go far wrong .
Its crazy trying to hunt for what is the best spot as you will never reach it as the people in the know will be all over that area.
Bushy Ground is a new area so not as well knowing but this offers a quiet area to camp in and as it sloops well down the only area that will ever get flooded is the bottom of the hill.
At the end of the day wherever you camp ' you will have to do some walking ' but at least this way you will not have far to carry your gear in and out.

We got to gate "D" at about 6.30 last year, got through at about 9.30 and piched camp at about 10.30 at the park home ground.
So as long as you get parked up before 7 you should be OK, saying that we are leaving two hours earlier this year...

I'm sure Glasto-Worker is on some sort of commission for getting as many people as possible to camp in Bushy Ground! Can't see the attraction myself having to walk all the way round the bloody dairy every day.

My Glasto buddies and I like Lower Mead / Suggs Ground by the John Peel stage... have camped there since 2002... and if they find I'm encouraging more people there I'm in for a ....
Its lost a little of its appeal since they replaced the cinema with "hospitality" for the freeloaders ... but still handy for many things, though a trek from the late night areas....

Thank you everyone, I appreciate it.
Not sure about Bushy ground, as, as you say it is beyond the dairy.
What about Pennard Hill, Park Home Ground or Pylon Ground? Maybe I'm thinking about it too much and should just see what's free when we get there

Pennard Hill is massively popular, and it's got smaller in the last few years.
Park Home is nice, expecially if you're a late night type - there's a lot of afterhours stuf in The Park and it's not too bad a stagger along the railway from all that Shangri-Cadia-Common business.

Its pure logic + I started going 32 years ago and the way I look at it is this.
The biggest hassle is moving the gear from the car and back to the car at the end so what is the point in walking miles with gear when its possible to set up close to the parking area.
There is no public access ' close ' to around the Dairy Unit - public enter or leave via the dance village. { i doubt many would walk around it as its far quicker the other way }
That camp site which was just opposite my crew camp site was very quiet .
Sure its possible to race to find a good spot that is closer to the action but then it gets noisier.
there is no perfect solution - the closer you get the further you have to carry .
I camped in Bushy Ground in 2009 { when it was crew only } and even although I have had two heart attacks I did not find the daily walk all that bad.
I know for a fact that there was room for extra tents last year and if the weather keeps up I doubt that many will want to wade though swamps to shift their gear.
If I had to park in the west and enter though Gate D I would head straight for Bushy Ground and be thankful it was so close - told you its pure logic.

Each to their own Brian. Personally the slog into Pennards and back once with all the gear is nowhere near as inconvenient as the circuitous route I would have to take a couple of times a day from Bushy Ground to reach West Holts, Avalon, the Greenfields the Theatre Field and Shangri-La, which are the places I spend the majority of my time. And as for noise well to be honest even Pennards is deathly quiet nowadays. You always risk anti-social neighbours wherever you are but with so much after hours stuff going on these days very few people go back to their camps to do anything other than sleep.

but of course the advice was not directed at you it was directed at someone who does not know Glastonbury and they were the ones that mentioned the noise issue { which I take as noise in general as there is a lot of noise generated by the various areas }
Where they end up is their choice but I do know that others who discovered bushy ground last year were very happy with it.
Sure it will not suit everyone.

Thanks for all your advice!
I guess Pennards will be a bit of a swamp anyway if this weather continues? So better off looking for sites on a slope.

Pennards is on a slope as are all the fields to the south of the railway track. It was only the area at the bottom that got flooded in 2005.
