I had mine removed when I was a teenager, it took me quite a while to recover but then again surgery is much more advanced these days. It was 20+ yrs ago and my scar is about 7" long!
I do think your doc will advice against it because of the infection risk.
Only you can decide.
I hope you feel better soon though, its not a nice thing to go through.

I think things have come on Stinky! My son had his out 6 years' ago and was playing football two weeks later! The scar is barely visible now and only about 2cm long. Keep it sterile and do what the doc says and I reckon you'll be fine by then!

Blimey, the things you can get at Glastonbury these days…

Oh, you had surgery… oh I see…

I hope you're making a good recovery, never nice to go through that kind of thing. My memory of when I had my appendix out (and this was a long, long time ago...) was that although I was still a bit sore, the external wound was pretty much healed after a few weeks, so I wouldn't have thought that infection would an issue. I'm not a doctor though... surely there must be one here?!

Mine was pretty nasty flashing blue light and straight into theatre job (my mum thought I was just trying to get a day of school)
