Default Acoustic Stage?
This will probably seem a silly question......... Second time this year and never saw anything at the Acoustic Stage last year, but this year there is a few bands we'd like to see.

Soooo..... is this stage "proper" acoustic, really stripped back sets with just a guitar? Or is there a bit of "thecnical machines/instruments" involved - also how big is it and does it get very crowded? (I know this will obviously depend on the artist).

Would appreciate some hints and tips

ROLL ON JUNE! (4 weeks to go )

it is a full on stage, with pa etc, i have seen drum kits in there and a single person playing an accustic guitar.

It is fairly large but can get packed, eg when robert plant played there a few years ago. But when steve harly played it was empty because everyone had gone to see a very poor set by coldplay...

Im not sure what you mean by 'stripped back' becaue i would conider an 18 peice folk band not to be stripped back, but they all had accutic instrements. They do have a few lights in there, but its not a 'light show' just well lit.

Oh it is in a large blue tent.

As H4C says it's fully amplified so the "acoustic" name is slightly misleading. I've seen anything in there from John Cooper Clarke doing a one man show to Hugh Cornwell playing all the old Stranglers numbers with a full band. Capacity wise it's probably about 3,000 but it's on an uphill slope so you do need to get fairly close to the front to get a decent view of the stage.

The Beatles tribute band played all electric so I am not too sure why it is called the Acoustic stage (probably as much sense as the New Bands stage?)

The Bootleg Beatles? Yeah they definitely play fully electrified like.

Juduses!

(The plural of Judas...Judi....?)

I distinctly remember this as me and me piece got together during their set back in 05. I quite like it as a venue.

No, it's not acoustic anymore! The name's stuck since it was first introduced in '84 as "A colourful marquee housing a variety of acoustic performances". It was located roughly where the meeting point is now on William's Green, just near the entrance to the Kidz Field. Lovely it was too - saw a string quartet in there, and a sitar group! It's got bigger and bigger over the years but as Robert Plant (who I saw in there many years later not playing an acoustic set) once (almost) said, The Name Remains The Same!

Great venue BTW! Sharron Shannon played there in 97, maybe 98? and John Peel said it was one of the best gigs he'd been to!
