Talking 9th Glastonbury But 1st In 11 Years!!
Hi All,
First time back for 11 years so i'm expecting a big change in everything.

Am i in for a culture shock on a culture shock, i think so!

What do you think has been/is the biggest change in the festival in the last decade????

I've never been so prepered as we are this time, even did a practice bag pack yesterday ffs and we've ordered 2 pillows of the Millets order and collect coz it's easier than packing/carrying them!

I always use to like it around Lost Vagueness so will be trying to get close to the Shangri_La area camping in Dragon Field if possible. (IIRC that is the old LV/Travellers area isn't it?)? Failing that then Pennard Hill, I like to be up hill just incase it's a wet one

Thanx in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Last year was fabulous, barring two storms on the Thursday and Sunday nights, we had glorious sunshine during the majority of the festival

This will be my 4th Glasto and the last two have been mostly very dry and very warm. 2007?...not so much. Please more sun.

Onto your original question SAS, after hearing countless tales of the bygone Glastonbury days it seems like the overwhelming difference you will find this time is a bloody great fence ensuring the only people there are ticket holders.

Through rose-tinted glasses I can see what some people miss about those old days, but in reality it's enabled the festival to not just carry on (ie. get a licence), but also to grow, expand and continue to amaze all that attend in a safe, tolerant and virtually crime free environment :-)

It's still bedlam and mad and brilliant and everything you want to make it but perhaps slightly differently to how you may remember it.

Have a brilliant festival!

Yeah totally understand the H&S issues they where experiencing, i remember one year when the fence was pushed over whilst we where chillin in the stones and the place was flooded, iirc the figures doubled that year to 200,000+, it was total mayhem

Absolutly will be having a brilliant festival, thankyou.

I remember the year before the super-fence being a bit of a nightmare - it was really crowded and I didn't get any sleep because there seemed to be so many dodgy goings-on all around (people shouting "Get out of my tent!" etc). I also remember the year after the super-fence as being great because there was so much space - I know some people complained that it lacked atmosphere but I liked it, far more chilled out.

Yeah I remember a long time back when we had a big group with a great spot just inside the fence which was all lit up. Made it dead easy to find our way back, UNTIL the fence and all the lights came down then we were overrun.
I understand the nostalgia for the old days but I have to agree I prefer it now.

Thats what i like to hear, nicley chilled
It was often "a bit of a nightmare" through the '90s and very 'edgy' some years which very much added to the buzz The change the last time i went in 2000 was noticable but not detrimental in any way. I just think 'i ll feel it more this year as its been so long since i last attended. I can see why it's preferable now
